Samurai Jack was Good Shit. Probably because it was made by Genndy Tartakovsky (although I won't go into my 2-D animated Clone Wars spiel here), and he does good work. Which is why, even though this was announced on a blog by a little known film production company called Frederator, the news that Tartakovsky would be writing and directing a Samurai Jack film in the near future spread far and fast.
The flick will be 2-D and "stereoscopic" 3-D, supposedly, and will be produced by Samurai Jack fan J.J. Abrams, which ain't bad at all. I'm not jumping up and down in bliss, but I always enjoyed Samurai Jack, and I'd love to see what Tartakovsky can do on the big screen.

Samurai Jack is one of my favorite shows off all time. This is exciting news, especially since I thought it would never happen and there are some decent people involved.
I swear, if this ends up turning into a shit pile of a movie, I might never recover.

Just hope for the best.... we all will die a bit inside if its a giant turd....
I was just talking about this show too. This was one of the biggest disappointments when it got dropped before it ever finished. It left poor jack trapped in the future never to find aku for more than a few moments at a time only to have something happen that lets the evil thing get away every time. At least with this it might finish the story. (Just hope they top the first major fight in the show, jack vs the army of evil beetle thing. Never did better than that one.)

Good question.
It better be a spot-on soundalike or just reuse of old dialogue, since he never says much new.

AlexB replied to jestergoblin:
The soundalike they used for his character in Avatar should work fine. He was a great replacement in that show.

They can get the guy who replaced Mako as Uncle Iroh from Avatar: The Last Airbender, Greg Baldwin..

Awesome. One of the best cartoons ever made. Wish it had gone on longer, though. Still, with BOTH Genndy Tartakovsky AND J.J. Abrams, there's no way this cannot be amazing.

This is the best news I've gotten in any otherwise shit-tastic week. Love me some Samurai Jack. I hope the Scotsman returns, in some capacity, as well.
@Rob: What's your beef with the 2-D Clone Wars cartoons that Tartakovsky made? They're the only decent thing that was borne from those messy prequels...

I know that they were all evil-robots-that-just-happened-to-be-able-to-bleed(ERTJHABs for short) because of censors and such, but the series was still awesome. Just like 'Key Blade and not sword' of Kingdom Hearts, it took it's crazy censoring and ran with it and made it so damn awesome that you would almost be willing to believe that it was that way from first inception.
[P.S.- Rob, I know you have been getting stricter with people imitating others, so I just want to say that, in case this tripped and codded flags or anything, I have switched e-mail addresses and that I am not imitating myself.]

Mako, the voice of Aku, died a few years ago. It won't be the same without him.

Kevin replied to SpiderHyphenMan:
So true, but I don't see that as a reason not to go forward. Hopefully, they'll find someone who can imitate him well. Samurai Jack at the least deserves some kind of resolution to its story.

OK I think I need to lie down after hearing this.
I shit you not, my first reaction upon seeing this news was to spontaneously start rubbing my nipples.
I didn't even realize I was doing it until I went to scroll down and saw that my hand wasn't on my mouse.

It's worth pointing out that Frederator is a long-established studio. It's just films they're new at.

This is incredible news. Both my son (8) and my daughter (2 1/2) love Samurai Jack. We re-watch seasons 1 & 2 over and over and never get tired. I was even showing my son the opening scene of Yojimbo and how it influenced Samurai Jack down to several scenes and music...

I always liked SJ better than Tartakovsky's Clone Wars. It was just more suited to his over-the-top style.

i know its an easy mistake to make but the '2D Clone Wars' done by Tartakovsky's isnt the one you have commented on in the past and hate.

vs.
Current, dumb and silly looking 3D crap:

I still think back to Tartakovsky's version of General Grevious where he took out something like 5 jedis in a single episode including the first Jedi by way of stomping him into the ground, his metal claws crushing him.
Then cut to movie where he is useless or the 3D version... where he is dumb.

Oh man, YES. Samurai Jack is one of my very favorite shows ever--I've been waiting for the movie, which I think was intended to be made to close the series since shortly after it was canceled, since I heard the first rumors and now it's happening and it's going to be TOTALLY AWESOME.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SJ and the Timm Batman cartoons are neck and neck for my all time favorite animated series. I can't wait for this animated movie to finally tie Jack's story. If they're clever enough, they could probably use old series dialogue to get Aku done. But it's going to be an interesting challenge.
