The Red Hood, specifically. This new trailer for DC's next animated direct-to-DVD movie looks sharp enough, but it's weird how Bruce Greenwood -- the guy who played Captain Pike in the new Star Trek and is like 55 -- makes Batman sound like he's 25, although John DiMaggio -- the voice of Aquaman in Brave and the Bold and Bender in Futurama -- does such an uncanny Mark Hamill-as-Joker laugh at the end I actually had to check and see if Hamill was starring in it. He's not. It's DiMaggio. I told you that already. (Via Comics Alliance)

Bruce Greenwood will be an AWESOME Batman voice!! Looking forward to seeing the DVD.
-
Unlike most people, I am not looking forward to this because I hate Jason Todd with a passion, especially when they retconned most of Hush (my favorite Batman story) to bring him back.
-
one reason to get this video is it also includes part of the death in the family. animated to set off who the red hood may be. as for the killing joke. Dc animated has stated time and time again due to the content of the thing they will never be allowed to do an animated version of the killing Joke. and night wing is in it.

I quite like Bruce Greenwood as Batman, at least from what I hear in that trailer. And I don't even mind that it's not Conroy at this point. I mean, sure I loved him as Batman much as the next person, but I also like getting different takes on a character. For instance, Neal Adams draws a great Batman, and so does Darwyn Cooke; but it doesn't mean I think either of them should be the only people ever to draw Batman.

And the Killing Joke is the story of the Joker without a past. Just consider it an elaborate version of Heath Ledger Joker telling the stories of his past in Dark Knight. That is why at the end of Killing Joke, the Joker says... "Something like that happened to me you know. I... I'm not exactly sure what it was. Sometimes I remember it one way, sometimes another... If I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice."

I'm not typically a really big Winick fan, but I actually quite enjoyed the story this is based on. As for the Amazo thing, without getting too far into spoilery details, in the comic, it was a not-fully-programmed Amazo. It had a base set of abilities, but hadn't downloaded any beyond that. Remember, Amazo gets his abilities by interacting with those abilities. There was even an Amazo build that got taken out essentially by a logic problem, and that was a Grant Morrison story.

Actually, Greenwood didn't sound bad at all. It just sucks that Conroy isn't in it. Good to hear that Bender is able to nail the Joker laugh though, and oh! NPH as Nightwing?! Sweet. Still, some of the DC superhero movies have been a little weak, so we'll see.
-
Yup, voiced by NPH.
-
Much like most - if this wasn't based on a Judd Winick story, I'd be much more enthusiastic.
-
Anyone else think that Greenwood's Batman voice is excellent? Don't get me wrong, Kevin Conroy's Batman (and likewise Mark Hamil's Joker) are the first and best versions of the character I ever knew, but it's like Greenwood took what Bale tried to do with his bat-voice and perfected it. Then again, I happen to like Bale's bat-voice so my judgement may be a bit skewed. Not sure how I feel about this movie as whole though. Judd Winick kind of sucks and I heard Under the Hood wasn't great. I mean... Batman beating Amazo by himself? No. Just not going to happen.

Due out end of July. Here's the IMDB page: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1569923/
-
A) He didn't badmouth Bale, he said Bale was given poor direction. B) that just happened this past weekend, and this thing releases in July. The voice work has been done for quite some time. C) If they make animated movies, with the voices of the people they used in the animated series, then all of us nerds will have collective head explosions trying to figure out how they fit into the continuity. Because if they're played by the same people, they're obviously in the same continuity. This gives them a chance to change it up, and get some different takes, and while I wish they'd at least do a DCAU movie with all the "correct" voices, I can at least live with it. D) It's their property, they can ultimately do what they want.

Bender is voicing The Joker? HOLY CRAP WHY DIDN'T I KNOW THIS ALREADY?!
-
Yay! Batman Vs casual Deadpool! (Sorry, couldn't resist)
-
i think this looks pretty tight. cannot wait for this one!
-
I hope that is not batmans voice in the video. It reminds me of the Bale raspyness that is not appreciated.
-
would of been nice to hear Neal Patrick Harris Nightwing.
-
The Killing Joke is just one of many in-universe stories about the Joker's origins. That's kind of the point: He changes the story all the time, and none of them is known to be the truth. Anyone who takes the tale in A Killing Joke as THE origin of the Joker is, well, an idiot who doesn't read many comics. - That's one thing Nolan's Joker did well as inspired by the comics: He told multiple origins to different people. - At this point, the comic's stance is that the Joker himself likely doesn't even remember who he was before his chemical bath, or if that was even his defining moment, or if that was even him at all. They appropriately shroud him in a mysterious past that keeps everyone-- including the Joker himself-- guessing.
-
Did I see Nightwing briefly in there?
-
i think the voice over narration is just a lame, temporary promo thing. it doesn't sound like bruce greenwood. the "who do you work for?!" line is probably want you could expect. sounds closer to conroy in tone. the voice over sounds like a poor impersonation of christian bale's batman voice. my two cents.
-
Okay, I've read that story. This could be really good if handled properly.
-
maybe because he badmouthed bale? who says studio execs can't act like overgrown kids? but on topic, yeaaaah...the nolan-verse joker and heath ledger's riveting acting has pretty much aborted any attempt to create a new tale for the joker on pre-emptive. still, we've yet to see what this movie is all about, right? why not give it a chance, and scoff at it on due time? :3
-
Yeah, John DiMaggio is about the only voice actor I'll accept to voice the Joker if Mark Hamill isn't around to do it.
-
It's actually an adaptation, by Judd Winick, of a story he wrote in Batman dealing with the return of the Red Hood and who the character is. Can't say much more without giving it away, which I don't want to do just in case there really are people who haven't heard the who, why and how yet.
-
I'm really hoping this is not a re-hashing of The Killing Joke. I think I'm about the only Batman fan who dislikes that book, but I prefer Christopher Nolan's take on the Joker as a man without a past, whose motivations cannot be understood. Not EVERY bad guy in comics has to be a sympathetic schmuck whose back story is full of pathos. And as much as I love Greenwood and DiMaggio (in other roles), I cannot for the life of me understand why Warner hates Conroy and Hammill these days. Come on, they're the best ever at the roles of Batman and the Joker. Yes. I said it. Mark Hammill is a better actor than Jack Nicholson. (Of course, so is Caesar Romero - at least in that role)
-
Greenwood also played JFK in 13 Days...so kick ass! This is now a must-own!
-
i have nothing to say except JOHN DIMAGGIO JOHN DIMAGGIO JOHN DIMAGGIO FUCK YEAH JOHN DIMAGGIO
-
oh snap! Looks like there's some Jason Todd goodness coming our way woot woot woot.

To Spoil or not to Spoil– that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous Knowing, Or to take arms against a sea of not Knowing And, by opposing, end them.

This is the first dc direct movie since superman/batman that I am excited about, wish they would just sign a contract with conroy/skywalker so batman/joker is always them, but that's just me
