Jughead Is No Longer the Only Gay Character in Archie

?Because starting in Veronica #202, Kevin Keller — Riverdale’s first openly homosexual resident — arrives. Of course, he’s at the center of a wacky mix-up when Veronica dumps Archie to chase after Kevin; I don’t blame her, since Kevin has a decent haircut and doesn’t dress in the fashions of the 1940s. It always takes Archie awhile, but I do appreciate when they try to catch up with, you know, actual human society. Although I do happen to love this easily misinterpreted quote from Archie Comics Co- CEO, Jon Goldwater:

“The introduction of Kevin is just about keeping the world of Archie
Comics current and inclusive. Archie’s hometown of Riverdale has always
been a safe world for everyone. It just makes sense to have an openly
gay character in Archie comic books.”

“Because now, NO ONE IS SAFE! KEVIN COULD BE BEHIND ANY DOOR! AROUND ANY CORNER! READY TO KISS A BOY! ON THE LIPS! BOOGAWOOGAWOOGA!!!” (Via Robot 6)
