Just... wow.

Having barely heard of the series before now I wasn't too excited about this movie. That being said I need to get a new keyboard because this trailer made me drool all over this one. lol
-
Dude. 46 & I not only get it, but will watch it. Step back into this dimension, it'll be OK.
-
MY ERECTION HURTS!!! So glad "If your life had a face I'd punch it" made it in! I hope "Everyone is bitches" makes it too. All these people need to quit hating and go back to fanboying over Avatar, and whatever else unoriginal slop Hollywood wants to stick up their pooper.
-
I would kill 87 people, sacrifice 5 small children, and REIGN TERROR UPON SEVERAL SMALL VILLAGES to see this movie NOW.
-
Damn right. Is there way to move your comment to the top of the thread to deflect all the hate?
-
god... i LOVE nerd Rage.
-
Smashing Pumpkins T-shirt AND The Prodigy?! Is in love <3
-
She likes to put the egg in her mouth and squeeze mayo in with it....she calls it a may-on-egg
-
Sesame Street frequently makes references that only parents will understand. I don't understand the point of your question.
-
And the music video features Mickey from Doctor Who... wow that's pretty geeky even for me.
-
No that's Egg, I mean Bland.
-
OMG is that Ann from Arrested Development at 1:48? Her?
-
Love Edgar Wright, hate Michael Cera. Now I'm torn.
-
Wow is right. Never heard of Scott Pilgrim before, but this looks downright awesome. Invaders Must Die was just the icing on the cake. ^__^
-
The one I recognized was "Invaders Must Die" by The Prodigy. Awesome tune!
-
***bracing for impact*** I'm aware of Scott Pilgrim but know nothing about it. That being said the movie looked good to me in a nerdy way. I'll pick up the first volume and see if I enjoy it. I'm 50/50 if my girlfriend's interest will be piqued (she's likes Michael Cera and is like 30% open to nerd stuff) but I'll show her the trailer and see the reaction. That's my story.
-
Seconded. Like... Firefly dolls are for grown-ups, but not this shit?
-
*nods*
-
That "Invaders must die" clip is catchy as all hell.
-
I most definitely have not read the comics or heard of it until I recently saw the post of the stuffed toys followed by catching stuff about it on an entertainment show then saw another mention on here then looked it up. Can safely say I intend to go out and buy volumes 1 through 5 and 6 as soon as it comes out and CAN'T wait to see the movie. But that's just me it looks awesome.
-
I read the first volume and REALLY didn't care for it. It just wasn't my kind of thing. It didn't help that teh internetz were spooging over it. But this movie (and the upcoming video game) looks like a lot of fun. I'll definitely see it in theaters.
-
Hrm. Interesting mental exercise. Speed Racer actually did the same thing with name actors, so it's possible. But yeah, getting the young talent works on a couple levels here.
-
This is fucking epic, I'm peeing in my pants from sheer excitement. And I didn't expect Michael Cera to be so good. At first I was "Really? Juno boy?" but now I'm like "Hell yeah!".
-
What I'm confused about is why people who frequent this site are pulling the old "I don't know why any adult would be excited over this" crap.
-
never heard from Scott Pilgrim until just know, but the movie looks awesome and funny...
-
And I just got the stain out of my pants from the LAST Scott Pilgrim nerdgasm.
-
Not only am I not familiar with it...I've never even heard of it. At least with some of the obscure movies I've at least heard of it. I think the movie looks cleaver and probably will be worth a rental. It's just that I can't understand why it's being hypes as so awesome and why a grown man would care. The whole premise seems like a teenager type movie to me.
-
The author of the comics did some truly A-class baiting on Twitter the other day. Basically pointed out that hipsters were nerds who spent their money on clothes and CD instead of toys and games, and offended both camps in the process, while making it clear he considers all of these labels to be absolute bollocks. Which I agree with. At the end of the day, this is a coming-of-age story filled with 90s game references, adapted by the director of some of my favourite films of all time. I couldn't give a toss if all the hipsters, goths or otherkin in the world watched it, as long as I get to watch it too.
-
The problem with that is, there isn't enough of a conclusion at any point in the story to do that. The first film ends as Scott defeats Lucas Lee? It'd just fizzle out. And who wants to wait six years for the story to be finished? I'm happy with it being one jam-packed film. It's not like it replaces the comics. If anything, it'll drive more people to them.
-
12-year-olds get River City Ranson NES references?
-
Say what you will, but there doesn't seem to be much middle ground on this movie. Personally, I think it looks like they did a great job of bringing the books to the screen. Still not entirely sold on Michael Cera though. Scott Pilgrim always seemed like he was at least trying to project the image of cool - why else would you be in a band? - but Michael cera barely looks comfortable in his own skin.
-
Yeah this movie is about people before the mall goths and spoiled scene kids, these are the ones outsude gadzooks buying indie band shirts
-
Yeah gidion is the other big one that I don't see fitting right into the role. But I have to see it this way that they basically had to get all the fringe actors for the movie to keep the soul of it, wouldn't work with lebouf or megan toe thumb fox
-
As a true Scottaholic, all I can say is that it looks great, haters gotta hate I guess.
-
Wait... I knew Vegans were mutants... but they're psychic too? They must be destroyed!
-
I kinda figured on that. It sucks that this movie isn't actually two movies or a trilogy. They could've drawn the story out for years with the material Bryan Lee O'Malley provided. Six battles (twins count as one), three movies. It might have worked. Oh, well.
-
Get out the torches and pitchforks, boys.
-
I hope they don't keep building up hype for this movie until it becomes annoying, because I can already see in these comments that there's a growing number of people who "think it looks lame" (are tired of people being excited about it and want to be cool).
-
36 and just wanked to the trailer for the 5th time today.
-
If I were the type of person who was that lucky, I probably wouldn't be spending so much time on this site venting my nerd rage.
-
It looks like it'll have some funny bits, but, and I'm sorry if this offends anyone (or everyone), but this reeks of the "Whiny Scene Kids that shop at Hot Topic and bitch because their parents haven't bought them the newest touch screen cell phone" movie of the year. I MAY rent it, solely for Chris Evans doing what looks to be an amazing job, but even that's pretty tenuous after seeing the trailer....
-
I agree! Seeing them inside Sonic Boom made me really really happy :D
-
Is it just me, or is that the Sonic the Hedgehog score chime noise playing at 1:13, when Scott "GETS IT"? If it is, Wright was even more perfect for this than I imagined.
-
looks fun, I'm just afraid that it being a Hollywood production will mean that the video game elements got completely fucked up and it'll be shit.
-
The Mongolian Chop Squad?! Awesome! (Seriously, though, they would actually fit really well...)
-
all that's left now is to deal with the painful 2 month boner I'm going to have after watching that. apologies in advance if I meet and then hug anybody in this thread
-
OK, we prolly agree on Scott and Knives. And Ramona. Wallace is just off the table, sorry, too perfect. Who else are you concerned about? Gideon? ;)
-
WOOF. Edgar Wright deserves (demands?) respect based on his flawless track record, but this looks terrible. I know he wanted to do projects without Pegg and Frost, but Michael Cera? I'm sure when they cast him two years ago it seemed like a good idea. Not so much now.
-
This thing is going to have the most epic soundtrack ever and i haven't bought a soundtrack since the first Matrix. I must own this one!
-
Hrm. I may be a bit late in this loop. Here's the link I was using for sourcing. http://www.twentyfourbit.com/post/473489332/new-beck-songs-in-scott-pilgrim-trailer
-
I can't figure out why everyone's losing their mind over this movie. I'm not even sure it will get a Kid's Choice Award.
-
Hadn't heard of this series until I saw the first trailer, but now I'm two books in, and waiting to get the rest :) I cannot wait for this movie, it looks so....I don't even know a word to explain how awesome it is.
-
Not at all, the casting for the most part is just off, no one but maybe Romona looks right and that's because of the wig, half the evil ex's are OK and scotts friends could be anyone but the important stuff is just wrong to me
-
amazing... I'm happy to see Brandon Routh's character... (and I love that she dated both Superman and the Human Torch/Captain America) this is going to become such a cult hit
-
I still remain cautiously optimistic about this film. I really enjoyed the comics and I'm glad to see that they appear to be keeping fairly true to the story while filling out some of the weaker points of the source material. (The fight W/ Lucas Lee for example) I just hope they don't try to tack on some stupid attempt to explain the silly nonsense that happens in this series. Just let the audience sit back and accept the fact that Soda grants stat boosts, Vegans are psychic mutants and your enemies drop coins when you defeat them.
-
It's already been said that quite a few things (Mr. Chau, Lisa Miller, the battle at Honest Ed's) won't make it into the film, but hell, if Wright can actually pull off the entire story in two hours or whatever, a few subplots aren't a huge casualty. I'm wondering more if they'll focus on Kim's past with Scott...
-
My only concern is that my face will get red from all the facepalming I would do anytime I see Knives Chau. Poor girl . . . and I'm guessing her father won't get on screen, depriving us of one of the more awesome scenes from the books. But that's so minor compared to what I've seen so far . . . and they used Todd's mangled speech from the book! Awesome.
-
Maybe you'll get REALLY lucky and his family will contract incurable diseases!
-
"Tell that to the cleaning lady on Monday. Cause you'll be dust. Pulverized in two seconds. Cause she cleans dust... she dusts" That, plus his acting, made me very much want to see this.
-
There are 4 songs in the trailer: 'Big Ideas' – LCD Soundsystem '2 Kindsa Love' – Jon Spencer Blues Explosion 'It's Getting Boring By The Sea' – Blood Red Shoes 'Invaders Must Die' – The Prodigy
-
A lot of hate going on in this thread! This just looks to be pure fun, and then they added more fun on top. I just don't get it when other people don't get it.
-
I'm 35 and so wanting this movie!!!
-
That was amazing.... The last part of the trailer is actually my favorite scene in the books
-
They're Beck songs, exclusive to the flick.
-
I've read a little of the comics, and I thought the whole Toronto thing was cool. But the character designs are ugly, and hard to tell who is who. And there is too much random, not enough making of the sense for my liking. I doubt I will like the movie either, as it looks like another one of those things where they try to cram in a whole series into 2 hrs. I may still go to see it if they have Honest Ed's blow up...
-
Jeebus, son, it's not a manga (although it does draw a bit from them.) It's Peter Bagge's and Gabe & Tycho's and Gabriel Marquez's bastard love child filtered through the Speed Racer movie. Simple enough.
-
Looks great, if you like romantic comedies and you're 12 years old, I guess.
-
Are you stoned? OK, Scott could be a tad less geeky, and Knives might be a smidge too old (hard to tell from her screen time) but pretty much everyone else is spot-frakin-on! What really impresses me is that they've actually tightened up some of the dialog. I've high hopes for this one.
-
I am now excited for this movie. Cera seems like a good choice for Scott Pilgrim and I really love the look of the movie.
-
Anyone know what the song is used in the trailer?
-
Haven't read the comics, but: FUCK. YES.
-
Nah, man, it's firmly rooted in 90s culture. Beat-em-up games, indie rock, nobody owns a mobile phone. As a 20-something myself, who grew up playing games and has no real motivation in life, the comics really spoke to me. It uses old game cliches to tell a story about the decisions you have to make in life, and the regrets that sometimes ensue. It's a hell of a lot more than the pretentious, reference-laden wankery that some people assume it is, but you'd have to read it to find that out.
-
I can't wait until this movie is released so it can bomb and i don't have to hear about it anymore. Maybe if we are all lucky enough, it will destroy Cera's "acting" career.
-
I'm only 26, completely despise Pokemon and I'm excited for the movie. The special effects are a cute bonus and all but really the best part of the Scott Pilgrim story is the heart that it has. It goes completely over the top while being utterly familiar to anyone who went through some angsty years when they were younger. It's an indie comic so if your choices are very mainstream it's to be expected that you haven't heard of it. The trailer displays the overall motif of the comics. We get excited because it looks more faithful to the said motif than we ever could have imagined. The core story is something that you only really understand at this point if you've read the comics. So to an outsider who hasn't read the comics and doesn't care for the motif you're expected to be a little turned off. I promise you, it'll be much better than expected if you give it a shot.
-
Looks absolutely perfect to me. Even if it doesn't quite capture the heart of the story ( having much less time to devote to character development and relationships), it certainly has the soul.
-
Um...yes, it is a movie trailer about a movie based on a comic book, but I don't have any overwhelming motivation for pulling $11.95 out of my wallet to pay to see this crap just because it's based on a comic book. If that makes me "uncool", then so be it. I'm a nerd and proud of it.
-
I'm 31, so you have no excuse for being out of touch :p
-
I didn't read the comic until I saw the first trailer, this just looks awesome, but I am into the hyper reality strange stories that don't always need explanations why things the way they are. The cast looks awesome, I am glad it only cost 30 million and not anymore it should make the money back quite easily here and overseas.
-
Any film with The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion in the soundtrack is okay by me. Looking forward to it.
-
Y'know... I just don't get this. Maybe at 30 I'm too old, but I've never heard of the comic, and this movie looks like some crappy manga or something made into a movie. Maybe this speaks to the generation that grew up with pokemon?
-
This movie needs to make $40-$60 million in order to be a hit. It's amazing that they got all of the SFX and all of these actors for under $30 million.
-
"You punched me in the boob!" If I had a nickel for everytime I've heard that.
-
I used to love watching Forever Knight because they felt the need to remind us that "THIS is Toronto" at least five times a show by using a shot of the CN Tower. Show us the Eaton Center, or University College, or the 401. Spice it up. One of the great thing about the Pilgrim books is that you get a nickle tour of Toronto landmarks. Like Casa Loma, seen in the scene with Paul Walker. This movie looks great. I love Toronto.
-
Not really getting this-- looks different-- but it looks like a busier live action version of Marvel vs. Capcom (and thats not a good thing)
-
I've never read the comic at all and I'm excited about this one. C'mon people, there was a pee bar! A pee bar! It looks like a fun movie.
-
And if the movie sucks, at least it gives us the perfect evacuation procedure.
-
Yeah.. me neither.
-
Bored of Scott Pilgrim now, hope its a good film but its not one I am going to see.
-
Ahhhh. This trailer is the soothing Pepto Bismol to the terrible gastrointestinal distress that the Smurfs trailer left me with.
-
If you're a Baz Luhrmann it's friggin' eye crack! Love the look of this movie but I'm afraid it's going to be too off beat to make serious money. Still, it's got a shot at a decent $50M-$75M run. It'll be a highlight of my summer movies.
-
Movie looks great except that the charisma comes to a complete halt every second Cera is on the screen.
-
I guess if you're familiar with the comic, it looks good, but to an outsider, it looks like the kind of stuff that makes Baz Luhrmann's films so unbearable.
-
It is half and half with me, it looks filmed written and directed good, but the casting seems really off with a few exceptions, Cera and Swartzman being the prime examples
-
So over the top. Love it.
-
Hey look it's Chad again^ And I just popped a vicious nerd boner over this.....only this can get better if a reallly sweet Airbender and/or Tron Legacy trailer came out today, too.
-
I need to stop getting even more excited about this movie. It's going to let me down and Michael Cera is going to be crap and annoying.. Now if I could only stop crying big fat tears from the sheer awesomeness of that trailer. *sob*
-
sweet
-
"That was Epic" Yeah Kim, it was.
-
I absolutely cannot WAIT to see this movie. My movie buddy better want to see or I will club him over the head and drag him to it.
-
There's nothing left to be said. I am fucking excited about this film, and I can't think of anything else to say that will express my excitement.
