Another exclusive SDCC video slinks out of the nether! This time it's a trailer for the Avengers cartoon, which has been eagerly anticipated (at least by me). I feel like a moron for being disappointed it's more kid-oriented than I would've hoped -- that's what I get for being spoiled by Young Justice, I suppose -- but it is a Disney XD show, so I don't know why I'm even slightly surprised. At least the character designs seem to have improved since that first pic was released, they're obviously pulling from a wide swath of the Marvel universe, and even a somewhat decent Avengers cartoon would be a major improvement over all previous Avengers cartoons. If I can just somehow accept the theme song... baby steps, Bricken. Baby steps.

All in all it doesn't look terrible, but it's no Justice League which set the bar pretty high for an ensemble superhero show.
Lastly, that wasp design is just painful to look at.

It doesn't look bad at all, and so what if it's more aimed at kids? We seem to forget that is the aim of most cartoons. If it at least stays true to the characters, it'll be good. Having Iron Man, Thor and Captain America in it seems to be a step in that direction.

Batman: Brave & the Bold made my 4 year old love DC superheroes. Superhero Squad made my kid love DC superheroes even more. Hopefully this Avengers cartoon will help him see that Marvel heroes are worth checking out.....or at the very least erase his SHS-centric view of Marvel.

Really not digging the Jake Long-style animation, but that's Disney XD's bread and butter. The little easter egg at the beginning, with Man-Thing featured on the front page of the cabbie's tabloid, implies that this show may have a few treats for those older than 12, though.

Animation looks good to me. It's not super-detailed, but it looks like they are definitely emulating the Timm style, rather than anime. Good move there.
