Another exclusive SDCC video slinks out of the nether! This time it's a trailer for the Avengers cartoon, which has been eagerly anticipated (at least by me). I feel like a moron for being disappointed it's more kid-oriented than I would've hoped -- that's what I get for being spoiled by Young Justice, I suppose -- but it is a Disney XD show, so I don't know why I'm even slightly surprised. At least the character designs seem to have improved since that first pic was released, they're obviously pulling from a wide swath of the Marvel universe, and even a somewhat decent Avengers cartoon would be a major improvement over all previous Avengers cartoons. If I can just somehow accept the theme song... baby steps, Bricken. Baby steps.

I'm assuming there won't be an episode where Hank Pym beats the bejesus out of Wasp.
All in all it doesn't look terrible, but it's no Justice League which set the bar pretty high for an ensemble superhero show.
Lastly, that wasp design is just painful to look at.

Nerd Rant-Whats with the half-assed Nick Fury? Either draw him to look like Sam Jackson,or make him look like classic 616 Fury...they did the same thing in the last Wolverine cartoon. Taking the look of classic Fury and just making him look kind of sorta tan/black is...distracting. Shit or get off the pot animators....

Sprent replied to longbowhunter:
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that. It looks like they recolored fury at the last minute to make him closer to the Sam Jackson version (that people now associate with the iron man movies). DAMMIT FURY, PICK A RACE ALREADY.

It doesn't look bad at all, and so what if it's more aimed at kids? We seem to forget that is the aim of most cartoons. If it at least stays true to the characters, it'll be good. Having Iron Man, Thor and Captain America in it seems to be a step in that direction.

1. Don't worry Rob, you're right to hate that Theme song. It sucks.
2. Totally agree with Longbow. It wasn't until more than half way through that I was able to tell he was black at all. I just assumed it was Reed Richard's Evil twin fury..
3. And despite all the above stuff I said I'll still be watching this. It certain is no JLU, but it does have potential...

I think this looks pretty awesome. I just hope that seeing this reassures us all that even though Disney owns the most shares of Marvel, they won't go meddling with the characters we all love.

Batman: Brave & the Bold made my 4 year old love DC superheroes. Superhero Squad made my kid love DC superheroes even more. Hopefully this Avengers cartoon will help him see that Marvel heroes are worth checking out.....or at the very least erase his SHS-centric view of Marvel.

Send him to Military School and put a foot up his backside.

It's no secret that the Marvel cartoons suck.
And Batman Brave & The Bold is fucking awesome.

You can prefer one universe to the other, but if it gets to the point when you're an adult and you have to insult a child over his preference, then it's time to remove Marvel's cock from your mouth and rejoin the rest of us who don't take this as seriously as you do.

Fin Fang Foom replied to David:
Well said, David. Don't mind a lttle DC vs Marvel smack talk, but "your kid sucks" didn't have to be such a douch towards a little kid on an anon online comment board. Besides, maybe "your kid sucks" is just jealous the litte DC-loving munchkin has a dad that loves him and doesn't treat him like the proto-molester "your kid sucks" seems to be.

Marvel has great live action movies but their cartoons for the most part (well excluding the most recent Spider Man) kind of suck. I'm really underwhelmed by this.

The animation looks just OK, much more static then the Super Hero Squad. Though, it is awesome that the Avengers get to fight Brianic, and finally have an animated origin that isn't a riff off Justice League's Secret Origins; well, except for Thor. I can forgive Wonder Woman first asking for her Mother's permission to help the outside world, but it's just not becoming on Thor.

The character design and animation feels a bit clumsy and the theme song sounds like all that crap that sounds the same since Blink182 hit Mtv.
Not really excited about this.
Sad nihilio is sad.

Mischiefkitty replied to Nihilio Demiurgo:
You do have to realize that this is Disney making the show hence would you not expect the Company that launched a whole generation of mediocre child musicians to popularity to have a BAD theme song?

Zukuss replied to Mischiefkitty:
It's really sad that Disney is now synonymous with mediocrity. They used to be the standard that everyone hoped to reach.
That said, this looks more like Flash animation than anything.

if the rest of the series is as good as the sneak peek there. marvel may break the curse of avengers animated sucking like the last attempt at an avengers cartoon. not to mention love how iron man makes the comment who is going to help me deal with this mess. as for hank beating jan. that will never happen since Disney has the final say owning marvel the ptb would never okay an episode where hank beats his wife.

Well animated, that song had me shutting it off before I could finish. Sad that Marvel keeps going style over substance. They have great characters and stories, why not use them instead of trying so hard to convince teenagers that they are cool...Just like them!

Really not digging the Jake Long-style animation, but that's Disney XD's bread and butter. The little easter egg at the beginning, with Man-Thing featured on the front page of the cabbie's tabloid, implies that this show may have a few treats for those older than 12, though.

The animation looks generic, so let's hope the writing and characterization are strong. Still, this trailer doesn't give me high hopes. And where the FUCK is the Vision? Yeah, I get he's not is this incarnation of the group, but his ass-kicking coolness should trump that. Seriously, who do I have to blow to get some god-damn Vision action going somewhere? How come The Vision never gets any love? The Vision, people, that's all I'm sayin'.
Still, although I'm 70% certain this will not be good, I'm sure I'll give a try. And depending on how hard it sucks, I'll still probably watch it because I'm a superhero whore. I have no shame.

Animation looks good to me. It's not super-detailed, but it looks like they are definitely emulating the Timm style, rather than anime. Good move there.

This looks decent. Marvel has a crappy track record of animation compared to DC. I'm encouraged by the opening newspaper, seeing Arnim Zola, Rick Jones, the Constrictor, and the Mad Thinker? I'm willing to give this show a chance. Maybe the Vision and Wonder Man will show up later, and they'll actually utilize Hank Pym.

The Brainiac-thing is "tech Hydra's got." They're actually talking about it in the beginning of the trailer. Still a rip-off though.
And thank god they let all of the supervillians kep their costumes in the Vault. Otherwise, we wouldn't know Constrictor, et al, are in this.
