A TV Commercial for a Comic? Why, I Never!

Check out what aired the other day during BBC America’s Doctor Who:

A commercial for DC/Vertigo’s excellent Fables comic. It got me thinking — why the hell don’t Marvel and DC and Dark Horse and whoever do this all the time? Why don’t they advertise comics on TV? Look, I know commercials are expensive, but c’mon — BBC America can’t be too expensive, and besides, the footage is just manipulated comic art — there’s no actors or anything to pay. More importantly, it would actually promote comics to people who might not be comics fans. Think about it — where the hell are comics advertised nowadays? Um, comic shops? Other comics? Comic cons, maybe? Can anyone think of anything else? These are all places where only comic fans see. They made their decision about Fables (and whatever) long ago. This commercial actually has a chance of getting someone who didn’t know about the comic to read it. Bully for that, I say. (Via Comics Alliance)
