• Are you kidding? It's a thing of beauty! The best bit of design from the Trek universe.

• Yeah, some of those warp speeds exactly resemble when Wile E Coyote falls off a cliff and then a second later a puff of smoke.

• Well, let's be all Star Treky about this: If one was standing two meters away from the Starship Enterprise, and it went to Warp 1, then by the time the sound hit your ears, the ship would already be 1,748,060 meters away, give or take. A 'poof it's gone' effect is probably more realistic.** **Disclaimer: Realistic is defined as totally made up, but fitting into the nit-picky context of a Star Trek fan.

• Where the fuck do people get this whole "oh the reboot warp wasn't like something you see in Trek?" You guys need to just admit you like criticizing everything in the movie because it takes a few liberties. I for one thought the reboot was pretty damn cool and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Also given that the actual effect of warping involves taking a subspace bubble and forming it around the ship, then zooming off into faster than light speeds... it's perfectly reasonable for it to just zoom off into the distance. I like the low bass thud too, it's more aggressive and gives the feeling of actually "breaking the sound (light?) barrier" so to speak.

• The reboot may look dull going into warp, but it sure looks more exciting while they're actually travelling through warp. Maybe a bit reminiscent of Star Wars, but they're travelling through a different dimension (is subspace a different dimension?) so some crazy effects are to be expected.

• ZADL and Gareth- Theoretically there should be no visible doppler effects, visible to the human eye, if the ship went to warp from a non moving position due to going from Lambda-Zero to Lambda too quickly for the eyes to register. Now, also theoretical, if a ship went to warp from a moving position there should be some visible change, which might look something like as if the ship turned into vapor and then dissipated. But that's all with some kind of Non Space Bending warp drive. If the warp drive scrunched and stretched space around it there should be very visible effects as if looking through aquarium glass and noticing a current in the water. This all of course coming from my still basic knowledge of physics as I'm going to school to be a theoretical physicist.

• It always makes me mad when you see that stolen Klingon hooptie hit warp 1 in the lower atmosphere. Any captain that engages the warp drive inside of a planet's gravity well is due for a very bad day. But it will look cools! Star Trek isn't about "looking cools." It's about the offspring of pseudoscience and unrealistic sociology parading around on television.

• The Enterprise-E STILL does nothing for me.

• I just realized that I'd love to watch a whole movie where it's only Patrick Stewart saying 'engage'. with maybe a few quick shots of the Picard Maneuver between blast-offs.
