Syfy will end its original action-adventure series Stargate Universe when the show returns with the final 10 episodes of its second season in the Spring of 2011. The Stargate franchise -- consisting of Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe -- has aired on Syfy since 2002.That present: A big ol' punch to the dick. Yes, SyFy is ending yet another of its venerable franchises (they canceled Caprica about a month ago). I'm not a Stargate fan, but even if I were, I doubt I could manage to be that upset. SyFy is on a long, steady decline into being Spike TV's shittier TV doppleganger, and there's nothing anybody can do about it. You had a good run, SciFi Channel, and you will be missed. You may now air all the wrestling and Ghost Hunters spin-offs you want. Thanks to Jody S. for the tip.

Well they started with dumbing down the name from Sci Fi to Syfi. Erratic scheduling was another reason I quit watching the shows. A tv series used to run for about 26 weeks, you started watching in the fall and turned to the re-runs in the spring. Fridays were reserved for Farscape, LEXX and a couple other shows...like clockwork. Now they show a couple programs, take a break and show some more. I don't even keep track of what is on when anymore. I lost track of Caprica, Eureka, SG, Warehouse 13 etc. I have no interest in picking up a story half-way through.

Hey Everyone, Here's the email for SciFi's Programming Feedback. Send em a note, may prolly not do a shite bit a good but we can always try. Let em know the show's worth running out the full story. For those who don't watch or like it, be supportive for those of us that do. Write 'em an email everybody. Be constructive. They'll probably just delete without reading anything else or that contains language describing how we REALLY feel. ..And start it off with, "Dear SciFi,". Don't bow out without at least a little fight...
-
p.s. its not just about SGU. they prematurely killed SG: atlantis to make way for it so they have noone to blame but themselves. it was SCI FI why did they never pick up ANY TREK SERIES SG:A Andromeda Surface Farscape Fill in the gap with a hundred originally theater released SCI FI movies... The Funny thing is with SCI FI they had a nice safe niche in the market, now they are jumping on the reality bandwagon just as its about to fall apart. GoodLuck with that LOL
-
BOtotm line is the channel was started as a SCI FI channel and thats what alot of you refer to as "wacky fans" wanted and got. with the rebadging and consistant cancelation of SCI FI to make more main stream shows, they proved only that they were hoping for a biger piece of the pie(advert sales/mainstream viewers) and didnt care if they toss all the "wacky fans" under the bus. Bottom line is they could have never pitched for shows they are now showing without the user base they once had that was only there for SCI FI. but they were happy to dump them and grab some quick cash. guess they rather make a quick buck flatline the channel and crap on the real SCI FI fans. no one is trashing wrestling. its the fact of were the channel started, where it was mandated to go. and were it took a huge right turn right back into what viewers can watch on 12 other channels.
-
Wrestling needs to get the hell off SciFi channel, its boring, its lame, it has nothing to do with scifi, theyre not superheroes in any way shape or form they are horrible actors\fighters who try to throw drama in spandex filled time slots. I can see why sg:U got cancelled it was a bit slow, I liked it and have seen every episode, but it needs more action to really keep peoples attention nowadays or at least more interesting story lines, they do drag on a bit much sometimes with no real answers. I hope they at least finish it off well.
-
And the fact that you thought Caprica was brilliant makes me doubt you have any real comprehension of what comprises good TV. I have rarely seen a show stumble like a drunken pig through the first season and only in the last 3 episodes actually form a coherent plot like Caprica did.
-
You do realize the communication stones are from SG-1, right? Again, some of the complaints against the show are absolutely ludicrous. This show gave SGU another dimension, much as DS9 gave Star Trek a new feel, and that's easily considered one of the most praised science fiction shows of all time. And to those who were looking for the quirky humor... when the fuck was Atlantis ever funny? Yes, Beckett would occasionally say something funny in a Scottish accent but everyone else on the show overacted like hell. SG-1 was occasionally funny because Michael Shanks and RDA were good actors but also devolved into trite banalities by the end of the show; SGU took a complement of good actors and made a semi-serious show out of what is essentially a ridiculous concept (million year old humans building galactic portals across the universe) ... that alone is worthy of praise. I loved SG-1 (and sort of was okay with the first season of SGA) but people need to MOVE THE FUCK ON. RDA is retired, Amanda Tapping has her own show now, Michael Shanks moved on a long time ago (Burn Notice, 24, etc), so if the actors have moved on it's PROBABLY time for the fans to do so too. Adapt and be gracious, lest ye be seen as annoying turds in the vein of extremist Trekkies.
-
Dear all, SGU was more like a Soap Opera than Sci Fi for me. Tried several times to get into it but couldn't. And Silly techno-trics like the comunication stones to get some time back on Earth was bizare. I'm glad it's gone. I loved SG1 with a passion, SG Atlantis was good. I have recently cancelled my subscription to SYFY and urge you all to do the same. I watch most of my sci-fi online or download same. I Use the PS3 BBC player a great deal - i.e. Merlin. and now the PS3 has ITV and 4OD players too. It also has a dedicated Music Player that you can customise channels to your own tastes. So I don't miss SyFy at all. Hate that they cancelled Caprica which was briliant though not perfect. I lament Firefly being cancelled. No Ordinary Family is not a good substitute! Kind Regards to all fellow sufferers. Harry Harry

Aw, but I liked the Bollywood dance number...
-
there's always red dwarf
-
Aside from MST3K, I never really watched Sci-Fi/Sy-Fy channel except for the occasional "Kolchak", "Hulk" or "Knight Rider" marathons.
-
SGU was a lame show that did not follow any of the elements that made Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis so popular. Stargate needs quirky humor to go along with the serious threats. They need a Jack O'Neill or John Sheppard and some camaraderie among the characters. SGU was way too dark and the characters were unlikable. People need heroes to grip them in entertainment. I'm glad they are canceling the show. I just hope they haven't ruined the Stargate franchise forever. I would love to see another spin off series that is actually worth watching in the future. Meanwhile I'll watch reruns of SG-1 and skip the final shows of SGU.
-
Lt. James was quite good, it's a shame she wasn't a primary character - I couldn't stand the paramedic.
-
Good to know, thanks :)
-
Rodney McKay and Woolsey together at last, if they had put some effort in to making fresh scripts season six could have been awesome.
-
Supposedly the Stargate program has access to the greatest minds on the planet, either directly or indirectly. These people also have a better understanding of the context of the problem Eli solved. I'm not saying that there aren't intelligent people who play MMOs, and people have achieved some pretty incredible feats for the sake of achieving something in a game, but this still doesn't work from my perspective. It wouldn't surprise me if it was intended to be silly but this would have sat better for me if they included some dialogue to that effect.
-
F**K SYFY
-
It's easy, it was an awful clone of the awful EMOBSG and thus boring as fuck. And I only liked the nerd scientist kid and the rest, well, who were they again aside from Prof. Asshole, who made Dr. Smith look the Good Humor Man. Really, it was like seeing someone put down a horse not only ridden into the ground but caught in the gears of an evil machine and seeing the body beat a trench into that ground. Now, onto the REAL SG-1 and it's next new movie. SG-U, more like Sucked Goats Unlimited...
-
I actually loved SGU, and I still don't understand all the hate. Yeah it's different from SG-1 and Atlantis, but that's what made it better. I get sick of seeing the characters walk back through the stargate at the end of every episode, O'Neill spouting some corny one-liner, Teal'c (stupidest name ever) not understanding it or Samantha getting offended because it insults women somehow. Talk about returning to the status quo! SGU was actually going somewhere with the plot. And I'll be honest, I also watched it because I think Julia Benson is hot as fuck, and it's very rare that an actress with larger breasts like hers can actually get a decent role instead of just "big-breasted bikini girl" or something along those lines. I thought Julia did a genuinely good job as Lt. James and she came off as pretty badass.
-
Then you know Playboy channel shows playboy reality shows right?
-
Not even angry anymore. Just saddened.
-
this is why i watch nothing but porn channels
-
You know. I'm ok with this series being cancelled. I loved the Stargate Franchise but this show was just so friggin joyless.
-
Why is it unreasonable that when they had a problem they couldn't solve and can't ask anyone without clearance about they obfuscate it in a game and poll the entire nerd populace? Even if they didn't find anyone with a fresh idea across that entire swath of people... you seriously don't think nerds would collaborate on a huge scale to solve it? I've seen some of the crazy WoW websites...
-
SyFy was never a relevant channel. It was always a red headed step child. You can't shove the perceived downfall onto wrestling alone. There's plenty of time for them to make up for the wrestling you all hate so much the other ~100 hours of the week.
-
Don't watch the Dead Like Me movie. It is awful.
-
You know the funniest part? Their viewership isn't "dwindling" at all. Tuesday nights when WH13/Eureka are airing are their biggest nights, with Wednesdays and Ghost Hunters/Ghost Hunters International being a close second. Fridays with Sanctuary episodes a third, Thursday with Destination Truth episodes in fourth and Mondays being their "dead" nights. SGU's entire first season couldn't even bring in something like 75% of the viewer numbers that the WH13/Eureka Christmas specials that aired last week had.
-
Now watch as the last episodes of the season be the best ever.
-
This is so fucked up. I consider myself an avid SG-1 fan, Atlantis was meh, and I really enjoyed SG:U (to those who say SG:U was too little Stargate, too much BSG - that made it all the more entertaining). This pisses me off. I share this show with my two best friends from high school. One I never see because he's halfway across the country, the other because we just work on opposite schedules. But we shared this, would discuss the new episodes the day after they aired...this show was a common thread to help keep our friendship fresh. Now what? Fuck you SyFy. And your stupid name.
-
I'm positive Spike TV will get "Ow, My Balls!"
-
A post I made about this, and Firefly, and how anime treats us fans better. I rather like the meta Grave of the Fireflies joke. http://www.peterpayne.net/2010/12/hate-sf-show-cancellations-become-anime.html
-
I concur
-
This is so wrong. The Sci-Fi Channel has been going downhill ever since they decided to rename themselves 'SyFy'.
-
Did I miss the news that SciFi got bought out by Spike or G4 or something? What the hell? Now I remember why I'm seriously considering cancelling cable and going full streaming.
-
Sorry for the double post. I understand they don't like quality because most people are morons and don't like to use their brains. It would be nice if the series could continue on in some form. A web based graphic novel would be nice. That would cost little money but it would let them finish the story. It might even net more than the TV series due to non existent production costs. I am sure they don't want to do this because it would compete for viewers with "Who want's to fart like a spaceman?"
-
Did anyone watch the movie Idiocracy? I think this proves they were on to something. I understand SGU will be replaced by a show named Ass.
-
This is pretty fucking upsetting for a few reasons: 1. I always thought the show was pretty good from the outset; I know there's a lot of veteran fans who were huge haters, but I'm also a veteran fan and while it's very different from SG-1 or Atlantis, SG-1 had (mercifully) ended and to bitch about it would have been incredibly asinine, and although it was a good show it ended well. Atlantis on the other hand not only ended poorly, it suffered the syndrome of having a good first two seasons and absolutely abysmal rest of the show. Granted it catered mostly to couch potatoes who wanted to see "opening-PLOT!-PEW PEW!-PEW PEW!-resolutions" from start to finish in one sitting but it was just the same plot with their horrible enemies being some of the most boring bad guys on the show. SGU brought back an element of danger that really drew me into SG-1 in the first place and also gave the characters more depth than we ever saw previously... like although I love the plot/pew pew episodes, there were some episodes (such as where Eli has to convince his HIV-positive mother to try and keep up hope by convincing her that he's still alive) which were beautiful. 2. They are renewing the shitshow that is Warehouse 13, which, though I watch it purely for completeness' sake, is basically just there as nerd fantasy and devoid of any actual good storytelling. The only real consolation is that they are greenlighting Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome, which, after the crapfest that was Caprica, should actually be a good show. 3. All SyFy (admittedly like most networks) cares about is ratings, so why even bother keeping the name of the channel remotely related to SyFy? Just turn it into the New Cooking Channel and air Iron Chef all day and I'm sure you'll get great ratings. Such bullshit. 4. The show is DEFINITELY going to end on a cliffhanger. First, we found out that there are aliens with near-godlike powers capable of resurrecting entire ships from scrap and bringing people back to life (only to die again) a la Starbuck and her viper. Then, we found out that the ultimate mission of the Destiny is actually... quite intense--to quite literally journey to the edge of the cosmos to find out the meaning of the creation of the universe. That, plus the insanely good writing of recent episodes, makes this a goddamn shame that it's been cancelled. In conclusion, fuck you SyFy.
-
At this point Atlantis has probably been off the air too long to bother with, which is a shame. I loved Dead Like Me but four and a half years after it ended I wasn't exactly jumping to see the movie (and I still haven't).
-
While people are rightfully lamenting Syfy's abandonment of third-party sci-fi titles, BBC America is becoming more sci-fi driven weekday mornings beginning January 3 (Doctor Who, Torchwood, and *reads title* The X-Files) and a branded Supernatural Saturdays block with new episodes of Doctor Who and the original Being Human (Syfy has a localized version coming soon) as well as Primeval, Outcasts, and Bedlam, and many more to come.
-
I really hate the move towards two very distinct half seasons. I can understand taking a six week hiatus around the holidays but at this point the mid-season breaks are nearly as long as the between-season breaks.
-
*sigh*-fy...
-
Scifi doesn't play science fiction anymore just like History Channel doesn't do much with actual history anymore. The niche channels have relegated their original format to a secondary channel (VH1 Classic, History International) that you can only view by upgrading your cable or satellite package. It's annoying!
-
Agreed, this shit sucks, I really like SGU.
-
Just read your comment so I did a quick search and found this on wikipedia. "The script for Stargate: Extinction has been written and is ready to go into production. The project however is on hold due to the recession and the decline in DVD sales. In the meantime, a crossover episode with Stargate Universe is planned." Stargate: Extinction being the name of the Stargate Atlantis movie.
-
You know, Space streams a lot of their tv shows online at www.spacecast.com . I'm pretty sure any reasonably adept tech head can watch it from anywhere. Just saying.
-
There's a bright spot with Eureka and Warehouse 13, until those shows get "too" expensive to produce. Sanctuary was enjoyable B-movie schlock until they had the Bollywood dance number. It is ironic though, that in an age where SFX are cheaper than ever, Skiffy Channel puts budget before quality.
-
That movie would be amazing. I would watch the shit out of a move like that.
-
I would like the nerds & geeks of the world to unite & create a fund where we start a Sci-Fi channel that is and always remains Sci-Fi. Let the low-brow commoners have their millions of "reality TV" crap. We'll have at least one channel that actually has good stuff created by writers who can actually write.
-

I agree that they should make sure whatever it is has McKay in it. Love that guy. Eureka, Warehouse 13, Sanctuary & Stargate Universe were the only thing I was watching on "SyFy". I know it's only a matter of time before they cancel the other 3 & I'll have no reason to go to that channel.
-
Atlantis movies = cancelled. SGU = cancelled. SCIFI = SUCK IT.
-
At least Cartoon Network doesn't play live action shows!
-
You do realize this is pretty much the first show that Sci-Fi themselves have actually canceled yeah? Quite frankly, I'm surprised it took -this- long to cancel SGU. It's always had pretty low ratings, just like Caprica had. I think the only saving grace it had was SciFi giving them leeway because they figured maybe if they gave fans time to adjust to it or let it have two seasons that it would get better. And before anyone says it: Dresden Files was binned because, despite being purchased for a second season, Lionsgate refused to film it because of issues in the way Lionsgate wanted to do it with how Nicolas Cage/Jim Butcher wanted to do it. Lionsgate is still, to this day, sitting on the rights for Dresden Files just out of spite.
-
I really have not watched much of any Stargate since the original movie, but I will say this, the picture that accompanied this post is a great example of Head Shape Diversity™.
-
Too soon, too soon... Seriously, though, THAT event set the precedent of stupidity of this network that has really been on a downhill slide ever since then. I loved that show more than anything else I'd ever seen and when that happened it really hurt and felt like a kick to the junk. I still can't watch Farscape reruns to this day because I still associate it with intense loss. Well, tv related loss isn't quite the death of a loved one, obviously, but it still hurts.
-
at the end of the day, they should not be Sci-Fi which is why it's good they changed their name. Any channel claiming to be about sci-fi should attempt to have SOMETHING from either Star Trek or Star Wars in their lineup.
-
I'm glad more people are calling this network "Siffy"- it doesn't deserve any other name that comes anywhere close to being sci-fi related. Showing wrestling was the first problem, but cancelling sci-fi shows because of low ratings is even worse. People watched this network (and producers made shows for this network) because it didn't need to get ratings like NBC, ABC, or CBS. If the producers of Caprica wanted their show to die halfway into the second season, they would have shown it on FOX!
-
I really enjoyed SG Atlantis but the episodes were starting to feel recycled so when I heard that SGU was going to try something different with the setting I was happy. Unfortunately the new direction they went in seemed to be "BSG knockoff" rather than an actual attempt at something fresh. The franchise really needs its DS9 – a show that spends less time jumping through gates and exploring and more time on politics and intrigue. My suggestion: start the new series by having the Stargate program go public, throw in Earth as a key member of an interstellar alliance, and then let us see what happens. And make sure McKay is a supporting character. :)
-
The SyFy channel doesn't care about Science Fiction. They never have. That's why they changed their name to SyFy. All they care about is showing stupid monster films and crappy horror films. The only good thing they have ever done was BSG and saving MST3000 when Comedy Central dumbed them back in the late 90s. Someone should create a real Sci-fi channel that appeals to people who actually love Sci-fi. How hard is that?
-
David Blue struck me as a genuinely talented actor, which was a shame because I couldn't stand his character. Maybe Eli improved but for what I saw this supposed math genius just seemed to play documentary filmmaker all day. And really, when the greatest minds of the Stargate program couldn't solve a math proof their back up plan was to put it in to an MMO? That's the best origin story the writers could come up with? I hope he does well with whatever he finds next.
-
I agree, SGU gave me the impression that they wanted to try a bunch of new things but weren't actually willing to commit to them. The main characters are stranded with no chance of returning . . . and then spend half of each episode on Earth anyway. The producers make a big deal about aliens actually being /alien/ and not just people in rubber suits . . . and the first major alien race we meet is the CGI equivalent of a person in a rubber suit. Characters are supposed to be morally grey but instead I couldn't shake the feeling that the writers just couldn't decide on a direction for anyone to go. I only watched the first half of season one, and an episode and a half of the second season. Maybe it got better, but I doubt it.
-
Saying that you only watched Sci-Fi for a Comedy Central rerun is a pretty sad indictment of SyFy. [which I pronounce "Siffy" because it's stupid] I watched Battlestar Galactica when I remembered and like 5 episodes of Eureka. Lost Room was good. Like you, I'd occasionally watch re-runs of canceled sci-fi shows from OTHER networks. The one and only SyFy original movie I watched was because a friend was in it and it was filmed near where I grew up.
-
THIS JUST IN SCI-FI CANCELS FARCAPE
-
Not only that, but does every episode have to end with a crappy acoustic guitar and some guy wailing while it pans over characters who never get developed enough staring blankly around while exaggerated lighting mysteriously illuminates fans or other moving objects?
-
I wonder when the next name change will be. I keep thinking they are going to keep changing the name until it bears no resemblance to its' beginning. techtv anyone?
-
I'm enjoying Eureka and Warehouse 13 as well, a good blend of drama and silliness. I kept up with Sanctuary for the first two seasons but when the third finally started airing again I found I really didn't care enough to start watching it again. Ah well.
-
I like it, but I agree with the nerd pandering. for whatever reason the science fudging on it just bothers me a lot more than other shows. I still enjoy it but it would be nice if it made a little sense. I have missed a lot of the show so maybe I have an unlucky run of bad science. Worst example. compressed water (or whatever it never made sense). They had water that made more water, but no clue as to how it happened. if it was actually compressed, it would be heavier, but they acted as if it was indistinguishable from regular water.
-
Wrestling isn't science fiction- that's where the hate is coming from. I know it's naive to think that a television stations would take care of it's dedicated viewers and it's niche, despite it not always being economically smart, but I can hope.
-
I am semi-disappointed to hear the news, but not at all surprised. SyFy (and I hate using that name) is just terrible compared to a few years ago. The way they air the few original shows they have never does them justice. As someone already said, they air a few episodes then go on break then come back and you have no clue what the hell is going on because of the insanely long break. Caprica hooked me with it's pilot then it sorta dragged for a bit and we hit the break. It came back and I'd already forgotten half of what was happening and it came back all preachy (literally, the religion aspect is part of the show but man was it way too much). Then it started getting better and by the end I was loving it, the final episode (thank you very much SPACE channel from Canada for allowing me to view them) was amazing! Stargate Universe same thing. It started slow in the first season, but it had potential. Second season it started getting the ball rolling finally and now this? All I have left is Eureka (loved Sanctuary and Warehouse 13 originally but for some reason they just don't interest me anymore) and the really cheesy original movies they show. And yes, they sorta suck, but some are great. People show up at my house and are like why are you watching this? And I say how can I not. It's so cheesy it's actually good and entertaining. I'll sit through EVERY syfy original movie ever made, but if you tied me to a chair to watch the Twilight movies I'd try and gnaw through my own jugular (impossible I know, but that wouldn't stop me from trying).
-
are you sure?
-
You know a lot of people keep mentioning other syfy shows. I like Eureka a lot and still watch it but for me Warehouse 13 and Sanctuary have both really lost their charm and I find it harder and harder to sit through them. They both started out with such neat concepts but they have fallen into standard tv formulas. Eureka is the only one that has managed to stay original.
-

I love Stargate but I hated SGU it was boring and irritating. I barely sat through the first episode and after that I never watched it again. It seemed like it was trying to be a BSG-lite and failed miserably. I knew that this was going to get canceled eventually I was just waiting. With that said I still agree that the Syfy channel sucks and swallows. The only shows worthwhile are Warehouse 13, Eureka, and Sanctuary. Even the anime isn't that good.
-
YES. WHAT YOU SAID. I want a SF adventure series that's fun, exciting, colorfully-cast and high-spirited -- NOT a dreary, grim, gritty dramatastic balls-dragger, 'cause FUCK THOSE A'READY. How 'bout a TV series based on <i>Traveller</i> or <i>Star Frontiers</i>? Or, you know, something where THE CAMERA DOESN'T JIGGLE LIKE A STRIPPER ON A FAULT LINE?!
-
I don't care about Stargate or its mythos, but I have to say that I thought this show was pretty good. It was much more cerebral than the others in the franchise. Stay classy, SyFy.
-
Eureka is actually a really good show and the only thing on SyFy worth watching anymore.
-
I couldn't have said it better (and I tried!).
-
I'm not going to analyze the merits of the show itself. What I will say is that whether you liked it or not SGU represented an improvement in SyFy's pedigree that was starting to show a budding maturity out of it's campy, awkward youth. To me at least, combined with Eureka and Warehouse 13, it presented the barest glimmer of hope that better things were on the horizon. I understand where Rob is coming from because now that hope seems to be crushed and we're back to canned reruns of a now mediocre reality TV show and terrible terrible made-for-TV-movies.
-
Man whatever. My wife is a hardcore <i>StarGate</i> fan with all of SG-1 and SGA on DVD, plus all the RPG books (HARD. CORE.) -- and even <i>she</i> gave up on SGU. I couldn't watch it. I want army men in space, not BattleStarGatelactica! AND STOP JERKING AROUND THE FUCKING CAMERA!
-
I didn't care for this show--loved SG-1, Atlantis had it's moments, this left me kinda cold. It seemed constantly dark and depressing, without the moments of positivity and humor that lightened up shows like BSG on occasion, not to mention how horribly derivative it was of that show as well as ST: Voyager and others. And despite all this, I'm kinda bummed. SGU may have been a lackluster Stargate show, but it might have picked up in time. I can't help feeling that the last vestige of the kind of old-school Science-Fiction many of us watched this channel for just withered and died. (P.S. I want to like Eureka, but why do I keep getting the feeling it's nothing more than another coldly calculated hour of shameless Nerd-Pandering?)
-
I also don't see all the hate for wrestling. I used to be against it, but then a fan explained that to him, wrestling is the closest he'll ever get to watching real life superhero battles, and I've been cool with it since. As for everyone commenting about why SyFy keeps airing crappy movies and cancelling shows like this; it's because those crappy movies can pull in two to three times as many viewers as SGU for less than the cost of an episode. Factor in that they can play the movies a lot more than an episode of a tv series and get better ratings as reruns and it makes sense why SyFy is making bad movies. A lot of people watch the bad movies; not a lot of people watch SGU or Caprica.
-
SyFy killed the show from the beginning. They took what fans know and love about StarGate, and tried to dump it into th emiddle of the Battlestar Galactica style of writing... and DID it badly, all because they wanted to appeal to a younger demographic. In the process you really don't have any likable characters, there's no real moments of humor, and it's so bloody dark and drab all the time.
-
hell yes to this too
-
my GF was so pissed off last night (I told her during dinner), she threw down her food, pushed the plate out of her way, and said "fuck that shit!" And went to the room...
-
Thank you too for pointing out in words things I also feel about SG-U. The thing that bothers me the most about it is all the wasted storytelling opportunities. This could have a been a really good show.
-
AMEN!! Could not have said it better accept Star Gate Universe was slowly getting better. The show looked like it was changing into a exploration show since they got control of the ship so the writers looked like they were heading in the direction you mentioned. Unless someone else (SPACE maybe?) picks up the show or they go Direct to DVD it's over.
-
Sy-Fy has lost touch with their fan base. I disagree with the Ghost Hunter haters. If you enjoy it, great. If you think its fake then by definition it belongs here. It has Science AND Fiction. However, other than Eureka and Warehouse 13, SyFy is showing more and more crap. They wonder why viewership has been decreasing? They make decent shows but with shortened seasons and you never know when you are going to be able to find new episodes. Show real, full length (24 episodes) seasons! Not 10 episodes here, 10 there. By the time the series restarts, I cant freaking remember where we were or what was happening! Bottom line, SyFy should fire their entire programming staff and find someone professional who understands A) the target audience, and B) how a network should be programmed!!!
-
Yet again, I feel like I'm cursed. It seems like any show I get into (even though I initially said that I would not watch SG:U) gets canned after two seasons. I mean, it's got to be me, right? It's not that television networks are actually shutting down the shows that people actually like because that would be stupid. Unfortunately, it seems that the biggest culprit is SciFi/SyFy/Spike 2.0...whatever. My opinion is their move (or NBC/Universal's move) to less Sci-Fi shows to gain more viewers will be the eventual nail in the network's coffin.

What would it take to get Canada's SPACE channel here in the US? I'm really getting tired of the SyFy channel. Stargate Universe was getting better, if anything they needed to pick up the pace a little more. Have a shorter season if they couldn't write enough stories. Instead SyFy will waste money on a American version of Being Human. really? I would rather see Good vs. Evil or Lexx brought back.

Worse than that--their sole claim to fame ISN'T being the channel MST3K was on, it's being the channel who saw an opening and snatched up what was, at the time, Comedy Central's longest running and one of its most popular shows. That's your legacy, "Siffy": a single act of opportunistic scavenging. (To the old, lamented, long-dead Sci-Fi Channel: Thank you for "Space: Above And Beyond" reruns and "The New Adventures Of Gigantor".)

Show sucked. Horrible characters, Robert Carlyle's acting outshone everyone else by about 2,000 percent. Insane plot, total helplessness of the situation coupled with unusual mastery of the ship was a bizarre twist. They're helpless and yet are issues that get brought up one week are missing the next. Overall hoplessness of the show made it hard to want to watch. Every week things got worse, but over the course of the show things improved. But they never improved ON CAMERA, they improved off camera, without being mentioned to the viewer. Too much drama. Way, way too much drama. Especially needless drama, drama for the sake of drama. Here's a hint: Sci-Fi fans are dying for a new adventure show. In any time period. But if you're GOING to make a new space show, all you need to do is pick a crew, put them on a ship, and send them out into space. Have them explore, report back to their superiors on Earth or some space station, and then explore further. Is that so hard? Focus on character interactions and story arcs, use the scenario to make all kinds of episodes, but be sure to add a fun, adventurous aspect and plenty of humour and levity. Or just make a show like Hercules. We like that too. It's nearly impossible to fail at story making Syfy. And yet you continually churn out random-ass shows that no one wants, cancel them before the writers can get any momentum in their crazy-ass assignment, and then look confused when ratings drop.

That processed cheese-fest Stargate Atlantis with its cast of non-actors dragged on for 5 seasons, but Universe gets dumped after 2. Perhaps in a few years, JJ Abrams will reboot the Stargate franchise with a fresh young cast... By then SY-FY will have rebranded to nothing but reality television.

You have a point the second season was much better than the first, but they still refused to take any real risks with the story. They did some interesting things and then conveniently forgot about them the next episode in favor of what passed for status quo.

Sure they'll get another great show... then CANCEL it. :|

I guess I should just stop liking anything on television. I'm doomed to disappointment and unfinished stories every time. This makes me sad. I REALLY liked this show. The complexity of the characters was terrific.

Crap, I forgot to put in my e-mail even. I didn't think it was going to post... Gogo Gadget double post! (why the reference, I honestly have no idea...)

Just when SGU was actually getting good! The first season was mostly kind of bleh, but the second season is fairly good so far. Sci-fi (I refuse to call it Syfy -.-) isn't just becoming a shitty cousin of Spike, it's also becoming a shitty little brother to Fox. Next thing you know they're going to put a good sci-fi show on the air and cancel it after one season... oh wait...
