God. It's that look of intense love in David Tennant's face that got me the most. Speaks for us all there.
In Buddhism it is said “Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.” Elisabeth Sladen was definitely an apex of that statement; she was the companion during some of my favourite classic Who episodes, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching many of the Sarah Jane Adventures. She will be greatly missed by a great deal of people. I wish all the best for her family, and that she rests peacefully.
I heard the BBC was planning a proper tribute to her and it would air before Doctor Who so I was surprised when all I saw was a small notice before the episode. I didn't really this aired on CBBC.
Very touching, she will be missed.
I assume the bit with Matt Smith was an ep of Sarah Jane and not an unaired Dr Who ep? Can anyone confirm? I'd like to see it.
Thank you so much for showing this. The BBC did a great job on this tribute. And yes, my face is wet.
that was devastating... so beautifully done.. I'm still in shock and saddened.. I wish it weren't true
If you want a real test of fortitude, see how long you can last without crying reading the tributes on the CBBC site (the lads were reading from it in the video above)
Annnnnnd... there go the waterworks. A lovely tribute for a talented and classy lady.
He probably wasn't asked. Doctor Who actors/crew members before 2005 don't exist unless they appear on the shows post-2005.
I was stone cold right up to the last five seconds and Tennant saying, "Goodbye...my Sarah Jane." Then I couldn't help but cry. Goodbye, our Sarah Jane.
Words don't do justice to all that Elisabeth Sladen brought to Doctor Who over the years. She will be deeply missed.
and if you purchased Doctor Who Season 6 on iTunes and the BBC - you didn't get any mention of her passing what-so-ever.
Stay classy.
half way through the thing i almost had to press stop for started the tears over hearing those who worked with her on sarah jane and as the doctor confirmed she was one classy lady. espically when she was being sarah jane. a touching tribute to her.
Pyramid of Mars is one of my favorite Sarah Jane episodes. It's hard to believe she is gone, you would never have known from watching her on TV that she was sick. I'm guessing her episode with Matt Smith was less than a year ago and she looked great.
R.I.P. Ms. Sladen and thank you for the memories
Hopefully they have something for Nicholas Courtney at some point, because it'd stink if his death went un-mentioned on the shows merely because Sladen died after him. The man was just as, if not more, important to the franchise.
Definitely. It's not like a contest or anything, dear god no, but his memory could have had some of our united-under-one-banner love.
Wow, back in the day she was pretty hot. And still looked pretty good for her age!
Rest in peace Sarah Jane
Oh holy jeez. Make that a BOX of Kleenex, Rob. I thought I'd done my crying for Sarah Jane... clearly I was just getting started.
I finally finished the fourth series last night, so I'm emotional enough thankyouverymuch. Hitting play would introduce an uncomfortable amount of blubbering into the workplace.
I don't think I could watch this. I watched "School Reunion" yesterday, and the ending of that just tore me up. Especially when The Doctor finally said "Good bye" like Sarah Jane wanted him to. I couldn't stop the tears...
I'm right there with you, man. I watched "School Reunion" when I heard she'd passed and I was profoundly depressed afterward.
I was watching "School Reunion" literally right before I heard the news (doing the annual re-watch before Series Six). Their parting in that episode definitely pulled at the heartstrings, and to find out half an hour after that that she passed was just devastating. But at least she's left a legacy.
"When Doctor Who premiered in the U.K. it ran with this 12-minute video tribute to the woman who played the Doctor's arguably most beloved companion, Sarah Jane Smith"Actually, not quite. Doctor Who aired on BBC One, which is like the main BBC channel for the more mainstream, more popular shows. The Sarah Jane tribute was directly after but on CBBC, which is the digital only children's channel for kids, possibly because that was the channel the Sarah Jane Adventures spin-off was on.
Kind of interestingly, after the Sarah Jane tribute finished, they aired Doctor Who: Confidential, which is like a behind the scenes thing about how they made the episode. This was on BBC Three, which is more teen-orientated; so if you wanted to watch the full set of Doctor Who programming, you had to watch three different channels.
