• Oh HELL yes. This guy knows what he's talking about. Men and nerds need to take better care of themselves sartorially. As Bunk from The Wire put it, "You know what you call a guy who pays that much attention to his clothes, right? A grown-up." And I can’t imagine anything more backwards than purposefully looking like crap just so people know you’re attracted to women. A pair of Aldens will last you your entire life and will look better than any pair of Converses ever made. This coming from someone who loves the shit outta my Chucks.

• Where did the "men don't care about shoes" thing come from? My grandfather is a WWII vet and a survivor of the Bataan Death March; before he passed he shined his shoes every weekend and kept them well cared for.  Harrison Ford was such a fan of his Alden 405's that when the costume designer for Raiders wanted him to wear a different pair of shoes, he insisted on using that particular brand and style and they let him.  The term "gumshoe" is likely related to the idea that detectives would wear the predecessor of the sneaker, shoes with rubber crepe "gum" soles.  James Bond and Sherlock Holmes are consistently characterized as being impeccable dressers.  Tim Gunn I wouldn't accuse any of the above as being "not men", "As a heavy nerd" is a different thing.  That being said the shoes aren't any worse than any other pair of messy looking sport shoe, although the white bump things are particularly awkward. What do you wear with that?

• Please, please buy yourself a pair of oxfords or brogues for the occasional wedding or funeral. You can get cheapo Target ones if you want. Just please don't wear a boot/sneaker hybrid to any event that requires a jacket.

• I remember seeing that shoe style in stores about 15 years ago. It's strange when shoe companies use an old design that wasn't very popular and use weird materials to make licensed limited editions. 

• The shoes are just ugly.  I would like those soles in a flip-flop though...

• I have 3 types of footwear, and generally replace them only when worn out.  1. Converse All Stars - You can wear chucks with anything 2. Combat boots - When the zombie hoard comes, you're going to need tough, yet comfortable footwear 3. Sketchers - Work shoes/boots. Look similar to said combat boots but more.. umm, office-y

• Those are the ugliest damn things I ever seen.

• Ah, if only I had the means to get such badass shoes. Leather booties don't last forever, you know.

• I hate hearing about awesome nerd shoes that I'll never afford. Damn you, lack of disposable income!
