An article on Monday about Jack Robinson and Kirsten Lindsmith, two college students with Asperger Syndrome who are navigating the perils of an intimate relationship, misidentified the character from the animated children's show "My Little Pony" that Ms. Lindsmith said she visualized to cheer herself up. It is Twilight Sparkle, the nerdy intellectual, not Fluttershy, the kind animal lover.Allow me to sum up my feelings on this matter with one image:

NoPONY likes Twilight Sparkle. Wait, even that's wrong. Nopony likes Diamond Tiara. Fixed.
-
Thanks for replying. Hope I've explained my opinion to everyone in a clear fashion that won't needlessly offend!
-
I can completely understand your reasoning here, especially regarding the relentlessly everywhere nature of the pony phenomenon. My attitude towards entertainment is pretty much identical: enjoy whatever you want, but don't expect me to necessarily enjoy the same thing. And just for the record, I am a rabid LotR fan, but I can understand why some people don't care for it. Different tastes, eh?
-
That's just a minor reason, mate. As well as not being part of one of its audience strands, I dislike how people think that "liking a show for girls has never happened before", for its a completely oblivious reason. I'm also irritated whenever it gets thrusted into my face when I've not gone anywhere near something remotely related to it. It's the same as a bloody overused meme at times. Also, wasn't I being positive in my OP? Sorry if I seemed condesending or anything. Of course, you are free to like whatever you like, and I'm alright with pony references every now and again. I'm just saying I'm not going to watch it for my own reasons, and you can enjoy it for yours. Hope this clears anything up about what was said and I don't get the hate of a fandom on my back. (Also, never watched GoT because it's not the easiest thing to get in the UK without throwing down some big money for it, and not a big fan of Lord of the Rings as the novels or in any adaption, but I respect what it did for nerdom and the fantasy genre.)
-
Made a comment above elaborating my point; would be honoured if you'd read it to see my reasoning.
-
Special as in Slave/Fax machine/Dictaphone? or are you saying that Spike might be Intellectually Challenged?
-
Luna is best ALICORN. Saves you the trouble of choosing her over one of the Mane Six, and it pisses off Celestia no end. Absolutely no downsides to that... why yes I like bananas. Am I a bitch? Well that's a little harsh, I don't even know you. The moon? Well as a boy of course I dreamt about it OH SHIIIIIIITTTTTTTtttt... Trollestria: MOON MOTHAFUCKAAAA!!!!
-
Quite so. The only pony products on ebay that Bronies have driven the price up on are customised figures or handmade plushies, neither of which have much to do with the market for G1 toys.
-
You shut your dirty whore mouth!!!
-
Nah, nah. The least popular episodes are either that irritating aesop episode about Pinkie Sense and Mare Do Well. Those episodes fucking SUCK. The Western episode wasn't all that bad, if only for tasty apples averting a Trail of Tears for the Native Buffalos.
-
OLD JOKES STILL WORK YOU DAMNED WIPPERSNAPPER WITH YOUR SLINKIES AND YOUR COMMODORES AND YOUR H.G. WELLS!!!! P.S I am posting in a pony topic. Don't expect much from me.
-
Well, that water dragon liked Rarity too. Especially since she fixed his fabulous mustache.
-
Apparently finding pony collectibles at reasonable prices is like finding good grammar on the internet. IE FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE.
-
You pony people are weird. Now excuse me I have to go make a post on the Avatar forums about how depressed I am...yes THAT Avatar...the one that makes me want to kill myself and makes people sue.
-
The Halloween episode was one of my favorite episodes of the whole series.
-
Luna pony is best pony.
-
Meh. Needs more DisQord.
-
Funny how you called out Rob on being behind the times, yet turned around and used an example of editorial incompetence that's even older than the "haters gonna hate" meme.
-
Not even dragons like Rarity, except for one. And he's a "special child", ifyouknowwhatImean.
-
I wasn't talking about just people with Apsergers, diagnosed or not.
-
I tend to use "bro" or "brony" as a gender-neutral term; no offense intended. I could say your interest in G1 ponies is "only a fad." I'm sure the brony hubbub will die down eventually, but I personally think I will enjoy the show for years. *shrug* Of course Discord is an atrocity. He's an amazingly well-done example of the chaotic neutral, utterly-self-centered villain. You prefer Tirac? Fine, but you're not going to convince me.
-
And just last week Bronies were on the cover of the Boston Phoenix.. along with Hipster Mermaid and Nyan Cat.. http://thephoenix.com/Boston/life/131817-meme-forecast-for-2012/
-
It's not so much a cliche as an epidemic. Not that I buy the vaccination conspiracy, but Autism and Apsergers cases are skyrocketing. Be it merely from better detection or some actual variable causing it, I dunno.
-
Welcome Time Traveler from the Past! By that comment, I can tell that you've somehow leapt forward from a time before the late 80's when Star Trek the Next Generation premiered, and after Mr. Clean made his debut in 1958. I'm going to take a guess here, and suggest that you are from the 70's. Much has changed since then, as you can see. But, old jokes remain old, I'm afraid.
-
Welcome to being a collector of 80s childhood Memorabilia. If you want to see what insane really looks like look into what Transformers (of any era or line) go for on eBay or investigate Mattel's Matty collector debacles with Masters of The Universe Classics series.

"at least they admit carbs are the white man's latest weapon against Indians." If you mean Native Americans: Corn and wild wheat have been staples of the native diet for thousands of years. If you mean Indians (from the southern part of Asia): Rice is one of the oldest food crops in that part of the world. So I'm a bit confused by your argument...
-
I like Twilight Sparkle.
-
As long as haters gonna irrationally hate, so shall exist and be relevant the saying Haters Gonna Hate.
-
Not when you're on The INTERNET!
-
There are people who dislike Rarity? Preposterous!
-
For the record, that's pretty much the least popular episode. Not that that's saying much.
-
Did Newgrounds always have ads?
-
I am not bro.I am female. I know, but it wasn't so many of it! It's only a fad. You'll forget it. No.Discord is cocksucking atrocity.
-
I love all gens.Even 3.5.I dislike fans. Hmm,you see, people look at pony craze and think "Omg,ponies are popular,I guess I can get pretty money on them!".And then we have Peachy with 400$ BIN.
-
Before all this was nearly impossible to find accidentally.
-
what do you mean?
-
A brony with Asperger Syndrome is not at all a stereotype? Oh wait, it's a FEMALE brony with Asperger Syndrome. Sorry.
-
Sorry you feel that way, bro, but ponyporn predates FiM by years and years. And no, we're not going to abandon an awesome show just because it inconveniences you "collectors." Also, Discord > Tirac. Sorry, but that's the truth.
-
Please. Finding ebay collectable ponies at reasonable prices stopped years and years ago. Besides, a lot of folks in the collectors circuit don't defer to ebay anymore, they buy and trade amongst themselves in their own circles. That's how I finally got a decent Paradise. Bronies couldn't care less about any gen that's not FiM and have nothing to do with G1 high prices. The only time they drive up ebay prices is for G4 customs and plushies. They stay in their own sector of the Pony universe and previous gen fans stay in theirs. Live and let live, hon. You don't have to love, but at least tolerate. That said, I sometimes feel like the only Pony fan that has love for all the gens. Patch is forever alone.
-
I agree with this. I avoided the MLP craze for a long time, but when I finally sat down and watched the show, I found out -why- it had such a large fandom. It's because the show is really damn good, and the fact that, by all rights, it should be utterly terrible, just makes it that much more impressive.
-
Yes, G1 had some of the DARKEST villains in Pony history. At the same time FIM has taken some cues from previous generations including G1. Actually the Pony Porn and Gore HAS always been there... I remember seeing some of it long before Friendship is Magic... (Both G1 and G3 were victims of Rule 34) FIM has brought over A WHOLE NEW WAVE of Pony Porn. I don't do ebay, so don't blame me...
-
What I believe about ponies. http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/576694
-
hm so something good is coming out of all this pony crap after all.
-
I collect ponies since childhood, and I seriously dislike this new fanwave.Cartoon is nothing special-first one was much better-and don't tell me that some son of a btch who happened to have Q's voice can beat centaur-demon (who,I am sure, didn't died in first movie). And fanbase is filling internet with ponygore and ponyporn,so my little sis can no longer google ponies peacefully. Bronies, find yourself another meme already and leave us collectrs alone.Do you know that because of you it's nearly impossible now to buy old pony on ebay by sane price? Maybe, few of you are good, but rest disgust me. That's all I wanted to say.
-
Not liking something just because it has a large fandom is one of THE WORST reasons to dislike something. Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones have large fanbases too, would you not like them because of that?
-
Picard AKA Mr. Clean. You can't tell me they aren't one in the same after seeing that pic.
-
Why would you visualize Twilight over Fluttershy? Bitches love Fluttershy. And assholes. And everyone. God I love ponies. ... I'm so alone.
-
Meme hipsterism is a thing now, great.
-
I can't stop staring at that gif. It's strangely mesmerizing....
-
I think you misspelled Rarity...
-
Pony's who opposed Princess Celestia existed. Like her Sister Luna (Night-mare) who got banished to the Moon for 1000 Years, other Pony's whom not had such handy relationship shared a different Fate.
-
Phillistine.
-
I find this story hard to believe. NOBODY likes Twilight Sparkle.
-
Brohoofbump.
-
Well, it had an episode in a Western setting where the ponies wanted to make pies but the buffalo wanted the land for stampeding. This led to a pie fight and the buffalo realizing pies are better to eat. On balance, I'm neutral. On the one, comparing genocide to a pie fight is a bit much. On the other, judging by diabetes statistics, at least they admit carbs are the white man's latest weapon against Indians. Also, Princess Celestia has never been opposed in 1000 years. This leads to the obvious meme that people who oppose her never existed.
-
Rob believes that "Haters gonna hate" is "today's hottest kind of cool!"
-
Isn't "haters gonna hate" a bit of an old meme? Say, Rob, are you going to talk about all my base and how they are belong to you any time soon? The press generally know nothing about pop culture. This is most evidenced by, ahem, an anime magazine having a photo accompanying a review of Cowboy Bebop with the now-immortal caption "Cowboy Bebop at his computer".
-
THERES the other one I was thinking about. Damn, I need to start reading the NYT more often...
-
Cute. Clever. But not nearly as great as this newspaper correction from the New York Times as well: http://apps.startribune.com/blogs/user_images/randmid_1304977225_nytcx.jpg I just want to know who's EDITING this thing?
-
That reminds me of this Patton Oswalt bit, which is AWESOME: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGk-4m1PFo4
-
By the way, the original article to which that correction refers? Really good.
-
couldn't Rob just update the TNG post to add a happy Picard face? In any case this is aMAZING!
-
I'm amazed that this is something that needed a correction. It's hilarious. And yeah; the fandom did explode pretty quickly in terms of expansion. I'm still amazed. Though I'd argue it's no more crazy than any other fandom at its worst.
-
... I am a person who has chosen to not watch this show because it's not for me and I have no interest in it, and I am slightly irritated that it has such a large - and sometimes crazy - fandom that puts me off it. This is not about that. This is about how absolute my feeling are that that is by far and away the GREATEST thing that a newspaper has ever had to correct. It has beaten an article with the most typos by writing the Pope as "The Pop". *Kid's Sports Movie applause begins*
