Oh, shit, I totally forgot to post the preview.
There. Nerd Bastards has two other short clips from the February season two part two premiere, if you're so inclined.

I can't give the meandering a pass. The reason for it being that they were forced to make twice the episodes with half the budget of season one. It did end in 2011 on a strong note so I'm hopeful that the all the belt-tightening was done in the first half so they could have the budget to do a really strong second half.
-
Or I may keep watching it if it improves...that's why I wrote this fairly short post.
-
I may quit watching it altogether ... that's why I wrote this extremely long post.

I really liked the <I>Walking Dead</I> comics—it is, in fact, the only comic book that I regularly collected for a couple of years—and I really liked the first season of the show, but I have to agree with the parallels that some are drawing to <I>Heroes</I>—it seems like the show is losing momentum and getting bogged down in some really bad "drama". I think the majority of viewers knew how the "We Gotta Find Sophia!" plot line was going to end, so drawing it out for so long was kind of pointless, although it was a decent platform on which to demonstrate the unmitigated, multi-faceted awesomeness of Daryl. The "Carl's Been Shot" storyline has been just horrible, IMHO, for many of the reason that Dayman has touched upon. It's been bad from the first scene "Yeah, go ahead, my over-indulged son...walk up and try to pet the deer. Nothing will happen." (O RLY? Maybe something could..like this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9fM1QScxbU ) So then after Carl has been at Death's door for most of the season, he has a surgery so successful that he's up and about with hardly and complications whatsoever! Yay! Or boo, as I thought it would be an excellent opportunity to hamstring the group (ala the "Governor Hates Rick's Hand" development in the comics) by having him stuck in a wheelchair, even if for just a little while. Instead it was just hand-waved away, as if it merely taken a nasty bump or something. I think him being unable to travel would have provided a more acceptable reason for the gang to stay and the tensions between them and Hershel escalating. And what tension there is on the show hasn't been handled very well, either. I'm not saying that there isn't any point to having any of it, just try not to have the show switch into "<I>Dawson's Creek</I> mode" whenever it is addressed. That being said, they are things that I like about the show. Shane not being killed off and hanging around is cool, but I kind of wish he was more antagonistic towards Rick and more determined to "become him" ala <I>Single White Female</I>. I'm also glad that the group is trying to stay at the farm for as long as possible, even though it has strangely avoided any attacks by mobs of undead or the individual magical teleporting ninja zombies with it's only defense being split rail fencing that surrounds it. I'm hoping the rest of the second season picks recovers a bit and if it doesn't, I may quit watching it altogether.

Touche sir...touche.
-
To keep it fresh, of course!
-
Can I ask why there is a claw in your crisper? Not judging....just curious.
-
Derp. forget the show. read the comic. I'll be back at the comic book shop, where i hurl the insults, instead of reciveing them.
-
He was in love, actually.
-
You have observed people before right? Visit a Walmart or mall around Christmas time. I don't think the show is that far off from reality.
-
Darryl is awesome because he breaks down stereotypes and I appreciate that. I automatically had him pegged as what his brother portrayed, glad I was wrong! Also Glenn is adorable. My biggest issue is with Rick and his annoying wife. To me they bring the show down from "great" to "better than anything else on television besides American Horror Story". (Shut up it's horribly great)
-
Glenn.
-
Really, all I can say is: Oh my god, Daryl has sleeves! It's a fucking Christmas miracle!

It sounded like something that Lewis Black said once: it's not the moment itself that is exhilarating, it's the anticipation of that moment. You never look forward to the weekend thinking it's going to suck. You go along with it going, "SONUVABITCH this is gonna be GREAT!" So, quit while you're ahead. Do not let that moment come, and you'll be in glee forever. XD

The reason we watch shows like Heroes and The Walking Dead is out of hope. Heroes had the potential of greatness that seemed inevitable after the first season, but was never fully realized. The Walking Dead has a magnificent pilot, but its dawdling and melodramatic nature are evidence of a similar descent. I can't recall where I read it, but someone said that its the "potential for greatness" that keeps people returning to the Walking Dead despite almost "universally disliking it." I agree with Rob that this season has been better, especially in the characters of Daryl and Shane (he was at least interesting to watch when angry), but I don't think that The Walking Dead television series will ever be quite as good as the comic.

I'd go as far as say that this show is my new Heroes. It started fantastic, but slid into awfulness in record time. Save for Darryl, I hate everyone and every stupid plot development (or lack of development) that has happened thus far. Yet, like Heroes, I can't stop watching it and bitching about how awful it is. I'm still holding out hope that the show will surprise me and actually get, you know, good, but it might just be wishful thinking.

Personally I thought the first season was much better than what we have gotten so far. The first episode of the season is the worst example, they drive down an open road, they come to a place with a bunch of cars, they stop to look for stuff to take, they have a lookou....oh wait 50 zombies magically teleported to where they are without anyone noticing. The teleporting zombies has gotten a little out of hand this season, there's the road scene, there's the one in the woods that comes out of no where so that woman on horse back can save the blonde chick, there's the one that randomly shows up in the Drug Store of Plot Convenience. It's pretty lazy and you can tell how much the budget cuts hurt the show when a show about zombies has 1 pop up every once in a while. Then there is the son that no one can seem to say "no" to. You guys are going into the woods to look for the daughter, I'm going too. Oh dad and Shane are staying behind? So am I. Hey look at that deer, I'm going to awkwardly walk at it even though there's no good outcome to doing so, oh hey I got shot for a plot device, hey at least I didn't bleed out in what had to be a mile or so run to the magic farmhouse with someone that can save me there. Now it's like a week later and I'm fully healed from being shot through the stomach! Hey guys give me a gun! Frankly the main problem with the show is that pretty much every character could die and I wouldn't care in the slightest, the last scene is suppose to be an "OMG not the little girl!" and all I could think was "Eh."

gee... spoiler image much? Speaking of spoilers, I dunno what to make of the Sophia thing. I'm fine with keeping Shane alive longer and building that up. The thing is.. Sophia is still alive and kicking in the book. I know Kirkman said he wanted to do things different, but offing a character who's still alive in the book is a bit different from postponing a death or adding characters. Makes me wonder how Glenn and Maggie will develop now that their adopted child is out of the picture. Though I can see how Carol will follow the same path in the book after this, if not sooner. Plus, that wonderfully sadistic bastard he is, in the issue that came out that week or so, Kirkman has Sophia make this comment: http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/8152/20111206105936.jpg

Woooow I didn't know he was either! Damn. Not only masking his British a North American accent which can be hard enough, but a damn convincing southern accent, (without being overboard or cartoony) as well- a new level of respect for this guy. A hell of an actor!

I just finished the first 48 issues of the comic book, and despite some character tweaks (Shane still being alive, for example, which I think is happening so he can do all the horrible things Rick winds up doing in the comic), the show is following the basic plot/timeline. If it continues to do so, things are about to get fucking insane for the reasons Rob points out. Let's hope so.
-
that also describes LOST. which I really liked initially and the gave up on. hmmm
-
Well I wouldn't call them excuses but some reasons I could see being "not wanting 1/5 of your water supply being zombie gut tea" (although it ended up being so despite a valiant effort) and "being opposed to smashing friends and loved ones in the face (to death) in case of a cure when they can be contained" (naive and irresponsible, but considering how cut off and removed from reality on their farm they are I can see the line of thought). I dunno- I've heard these complaints frequently as well as "wtf! Why are they staying on the relatively safe farm with water, some food, supplies not too far away and a home base while looking for Sophia, when they could be on the road fighting zombies for their lives and being bad asses" like Rob mentioned. Not that they aren't badasses, but it's like Rob says- they're motivated (and thus the show is motivated) by their survival.
-
"Really, there's nowhere for the group to go. Oh, they might have ideas of places to go, but no idea what they'll find there..." The same could be said for the writers of the show. They have ideas, most with the potential to be really great, but they have no idea how to fully realize their ideas without them falling apart before they reach a satisfying conclusion. The show has its moments where it's pretty good, and that keeps me watching.
-
I really want to like Walking Dead and having given it chance after chance but it just bores me. The characters are dull and usual nothing happens and when something does happen it's a long stretch until something else.
-
My theory is that the zombie apocalypse is caused from something in the air. It's also causing the survivors to devolve and get dumber and dumber. Is there any other excuse for "zombie well fishing with Asian bait" and "zombie barn?" It seemed like this last season was written by aliens who only know us through our TV programming, but have never actually met a real human.
-
I did not know the guy who plays Sheriff Rick is English until I watched a bit of Strike Back.
-
This show frustrates me to no end. I like what they're trying to do, but do all the characters have to be so goddamn unlikable?
-
YES! Well said Rob.
-
Yeah, that's pretty much everything I could've said, so, uh... Here's my fridge? http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y185/Ridureyu/figures/MUSCLE/FridgeAgain.png I dunno, I got nothing.
