Notice anything missing from this list? Yeah, the ThunderCats are loose, and not in a good way. And since Bandai didn't have any new ThunderCats toys at the New York Toy Fair month, I think we can safely say that Cartoon Network is setting them in a box that says "FREE '80S PROPERTY" by the side of the road at some point in the near future. Sigh. (Via ToyNewsI)
More links from around the web!
This whole page is invalid the show has been back on the air since the beginning of April you nubs.
.........mother fuckers.........bring back thundercats make me all happy and then they cut it........as a fan from the 80's i am seriously pissed off.
Toyfair had new Thundercats toys, they revealed the season 2 toys of a new Mumm-Ra figure, a new-Mecha arms Panthro, a figure of Claudis, new Cheetara, a Sslithe figure, and some new Role Play accessories. Cartoon Network isn't going to drop the ball on one of their highest anticipated animated series in years. Generally if the press-release doesn't have a "new season" for the Fall schedule, it's due to the fact the series IS ALREADY IN PRODUCTION. Plus last year Thundercats was announced to have not just 2 seasons but 3.
sure, i'm a board paid cronie, whatever.
I'm just stating the facts, Toyfair just released some new toys, and the show was given a greenlight for a Second Season and Third Season a couple months back. It's just a matter of paying attention and digging around than acting like an idiot and thinking TR is the only source for this kind of information.
Also, if the show was going to be cancelled, a tell-tell sign is the sudden timeslot shift from Friday Nights to Sunday Morning, to Wednesday Evenings. When you see a show moving around throughout the course of a couple months on a timeslot (for example, Sym-Bionic Titan), you shouldn't expect to see it return even in reruns.
So don't get your knickers in a twist, the show isn't vanishing, if it does go on hiatus, it'll be the same thing that Venture Brothers does, writes a handful of episodes after a break to do press and fan tongue wagging, then return to animated episodes fresh from overseas waiting to be edited and audio-synched.
tl;dr THUNDERCATS IS NOT CANCELLED.
Well, there goes my primary reason for watching Cartoon Network.
I did everything I could to support it. I bought all the generally awful toys (some even twice!) and watched the show every chance I got. It's irksome that I make the effort to support what I love and they chuck it in the dumpster anyway.
...FUCK!!!!!!!!!!
I think the only time I'll watch Cartoon Network now is that thirty minutes slot of Adventure Time.
Thundercats was going brilliantly.
I never really got the appeal of ThunderCats, truthfully; it looked pretty, but it just seemed, I dunno. Meh. I wanted to watch it, but never could catch it on, let alone really get into it.
That said, kids'll keep tat fucking Annoying Orange show on the air; I mean, I don't hate the creator behind it. He's literally basking in oodles of money for making fart jokes, rotoscopping lips onto the orange and assorted fruit, which takes like, what? An hour or two in AfterEffects or some shit? Then posting up a video of 2 minutes of fart jokes, poop jokes, et. all.
Kudos to him for being able to come up with a business plan that works without much effort on his part at all. Not sure about the Green Lantern; haven't caught that on TV yet either, but the promos look okay.
The only one's i'm slightly happy to see return being Gumball [nothing special, but I like it well enough], and Clone Wars [because I'm still waiting for Order 66].
Looney Tunes is decent, but the one I'm looking forward to the most is Mysteries Inc which returns in May. That's it for CN.
[Legend of Korra is still my top cartoon, but that's Nickilodean.]
My real question is: What the fuck is Ninjago and why is a Lego set becoming a cartoon? Are they just starved for creativity and sellability? If so, I have this wonderful idea:
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. KIDS AREN'T AS STUPID AS YOU THINK THEY ARE. Yes, they will eat up Annoying Orange; hell, everyone'll eat up retarded shows like that. Yes, they'll eat up Level Up -- it's fun, goofy, awful, but the actors seem to be having fun with it. I don't care, just up the production value or something, at least make the writing team go away and come up with better material -- but kids need to like and hate the characters.
Do you know why Skeletor and He-Man [the old cartoon, I didn't see the new one] sold so well in the past? He-Man was pretty likeable [and faaabulous], and Skeletor was a pretty ruthless, hateable guy. He was also designed really cool, so if you can't do character development well, there's always a secondary alternative.
DESIGN THEM WELL. Make them look awesome, or cool, or something. No, I don't mean SPIKES EVERYWHERE = cool just have the designs be much more awesome than they, well, have been. That's if you can't get the kids to like them with Development.
Of course, you could do all of these and also get the Genndy Tartakovsky treatment. SOMETIMES, YOU JUST CAN'T WIN.
[it doesn't mean I don't weep for the future of cartoons, especially Gendy Tartakovsky toons.]
i really really hope warner brother animation/warner premere dvd steps up and finishes the story with straight to dvd movies...... this cartoon , be it a remake or not was soooo far supieor to anything else on CN ..... it was pretty much the only thing my son and i watched on the channel at all... wtf is up with live action shows on cartoon network anyway.... gonna have to find him the 2nd wave of toys before they are gone :( he plays with em non stop and runs around with the sword of omen fightin lizards... sucks :(
WHERE THE FUCK IS ABRAXAS AND that junkie SCOOTER when you need them >__>
we NEED TO FUCK UP THE EXECS on the CARTOON NETWORK and they are the perfect ones for the job >______>
FUCK EVERYTHING ELSE I DONT CARE I WANT MY KITTENS , not A FUCKING ORANGE ... and you know RETARDED KIDS these days will keep that shit on the air >_>
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
im supposed to get my hands on the 2011 thundertank before they are discontinued >___>
The only new show that looks halfway decent is Ben 10 Omniverse, and only half of the older shows are decent!
Wait, what? Casper's Scare School and Hero 108, really? Did they not get cancelled years ago for being boring and shitty? Then again, the network loves the shit out of Johnny Test and think Beware the Batman is a better idea then BatB, so they obliviously no concept of taste or success. So fuck them!
From what I heard you shouldn't trust returning shows from Upfronts they aren't always acurate.
You know, I don't really mind this news. While the premiere of Thundercats was great, the later episodes were so dull and unfocused that I couldn't care anymore. I tried to find some good in them, but I just stopped after a while. Adventure Time and Regular Show are all I need anyway.
But goddammit, Johnny Test is still on air? What the fuck Cartoon Network?
whoa..hold on...cartoons being used as tools to sell toys..now I've heard everything!
how the heck is Nick Cannon going to do a sketch show? He had to step down from NY radio (that's just job #5) recently due to health issues...
So I guess all CN can really offer me is Ben 10 Omniverse (Oh if only this was around when Animated was on, still I love DW's designs) and maybe the new Batman show (eh, I might catch the first episode if nothing else is on). I guess that's good then, because then there's not much competition for Korra.
At least they're keeping 'Regular Show' and 'Adventure Time'.
However, renewing 'Johnny Test'? That's bullshit!
No. That's called "Cancelling a well-written, beautifully animated action show because its budget was too high while keeping a horribly-animated and badly-written Canadian import because it's cheaper because I'm Stuart Snyder and I want to waste more network money on shitty live action shows."
The show did make several mistakes, not the least of which was the molasses-like pace of the overall plot. The show's more decompressed than a Bendis comic, and that's not something that'll keep casual viewers tuning in.
Well, now, that's out and out wrong. "Molasses-like"? TCats has had one of the fastest-moving arc plots I've seen out of a Western cartoon. Reaching the Tower of Omens should have, by all rights, been the thirteen-episode mid-season game-changing moment, not something that happened in episode five (and in-between, they should have actually given each individual member of the cast a spotlight episode while on the journey). Or, they should have opened with a five-parter that encompassed the tower and the extended flashback, to set up a proper season-long arc that was dedicated to searching for the warstones. The plotting is definitely wonky, but "being slow" is certainly not it's problem.
I say again, THUNDERCATS WAS NOT CANCELED, it just had it's second season premier 5 days ago and I'm looking at the guide right now saying that there will be another episode next week. Has it ever occurred to anyone that they may have just forgot to put it on the list?
You're only half right.........what you're watching is the 2nd half of season 1.........season 2 will not begin until 2013, thus it's not listed on the 2012 renewal list.
So, good shows returning:Clone WarsYoung JusticeRegular Show (OOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH)Green Lantern (More decent than good, but hey - if Young Justice could turn good, ANYTHING can)Adventure TimeThe Looney Tunes Show
Okay shows:Gumball (Nothing really special) Pokemon (Oh, I hate the anime all right, but I can't lump it in with the real shit)
UnairedBeware the Batman (It looks bad, but who knows.)Ben 10 Omniverse (Hey, it's got Derrick Wyatt on board. It should be good given how good the past shows he's done design work for have been.)
Dreamworks Dragons (Won't be half as good as the movie, of course)
Shitty shows:Annoying Orange (Doesn't have to air for me to know it'll be a disaster)Total Drama NinjagoMADNick Cannon Sketch Comedy (GET LIVE ACTION OFFA CN)Level UpJohnny TestSidekickScaredy SquirrelHero 108Casper's Scare SchoolAlmost Naked Animals
That's six good shows and 12 shit-tastic piles of FAIL. Well done, Snyder. Well fucking done.
maybe they need to follow Sci-Fi's lead off a cliff and self-immolate rebrand themselves. how about Kartunez Network?
Level Up is returning? I swear that looks like something the Disney Channel rejected as being too cheesy.
There's a lesson here, and it's "don't piss away your entire first season without actually stopping to give your cast some characterization." The whole thing was fast-moving stop-start "epic arc plot", a whole season of which felt like it got crammed into seven episodes, and not one single character outside of Lion-O had a dedicated plot to themselves until the finale. Lovely animation (and it was lovely - TCats is one of the prettiest things on TV) is all well and good, but kids aren't stupid, and if they don't actually come to LIKE the cast, they're not going to want to buy the toys and the show's not going to get any support. And here we are.
Eh, the animation took a turn for the worse after the pilot (which was to be expected). Mumm-Ra in particular looked godawful whenever he went into the powered-up form.
It's sad that when a show is good that merchandising is more important the the viewers. Thundercats is a great show and the Cartoon Network is a shell of what it was 10 years ago.
It's all coming to crap nowadays, what is up with the cancellations of the more than decent tv-shows nowadays.......is it a government thing or something,......doesn't tv mass-hypnotize us well enough anymore? so instead we get to watch crap instead of quality programms??
