He gets a lot of flack but this is a stand-up move. Too bad there's alway some moron like @abuvthefold, some reporter in Boulder, that criticized him because he wore a t-shirt.

Character can be taught. CLASS is part of your soul. You could even say...(puts on sunglasses)...it was a "Christian" act of charity. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YMPAH67f4o
You should learn more about the "domestic violence" you're referencing. They were attempting to extort money from him, and there was no evidence he physicallyattacked anyone. And Gloria Steinam was his stepmother. So that's in the awesome column, too.
As far as I'm concerned, he traded in his Good Dude membership card when he chose to commit domestic violence.
I didn't intend any insult against Care Bear fandom. You have my apologies for any offense I may have caused.
I think it would go down more as Holmes trying patheticly to quote that scene from Dark Knight verbatim before shitting himself in fright when he realises BALE THINKS HE ACTUALLY IS BATMAN. "I... there is nothing you can do..." "WHEEEEAAAREE ARRREEEE THEEYYY!!!!" "Okay okay, I'm not pretending anymore!! Please stop hurting me..." SLAM "WHEEEERRREEEE AARRREEE THEEEYYY!!!!" "JESUS CHRIST WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO SHOVE THAT CAN OF MACE?!!" "There's nothing wrong with you that I can't fix with my HANDS, Joker...."
This is true and after rereading my comment I realize it is much more cynical then I intended. I certainly give respect where it's due and visiting the victims of this senseless tragedy to brighten their day is certainly a kind thing to do and I didn't mean to take away from that. I guess my point was, say, take Ron Perlman a person I've never heard a negative thing against goes and visits a sick kid dressed as his favorite hero. He's a good man. Christian Bale did something worthy of respect that is absolutely true but it's just hard for me to consider him a "good man".
I had read somewhere that he had talked to some people about specifically not letting the media know. And it wasn't just the victims, he visited first responders, police, and paramedics as well. However it went down it was done with class and consideration for the nightmare these people have had to suffer through.
Well, he could always sell it and take the money to buy a +7 Obsidian Armor. Better defense, half the price!
I'm gonna quote Gareth on this thread: "In a cynical world where everyone's too used to walking over each other, or just being out and out wicked, altruistic acts get classified as a different sort of evil by those people. The textbook definition of "damned if you do, damned if you don't" is right here in these threads."
No no, HITLER is "not a good dude". This guy, though, he's "a flawed individual that is still capable of human compassion despite of slip-ups in the past".
This whole event is just overwhelming, and I only relate as a geek who would've been at that preimeire had I lived there, so I relate a little more, like most people here. I can't even imagine how Bale relates... what he did is impressive, and giving. Like I said, overwhelmed.
Man...I may just cash in these free tickets now and see this damn thing...Freaking Good hearted people and stuff.
I'm just glad people haven't been too relatively cynical around the interwebs about what Bale did. He really didn't have to (it's not like Batman himself promotes gun violence) but he still did, and we only know because everybody there facebook/tweeted about it. Most snarky comment I've read so far just involves being thankful he didn't do the Batman voice. :P And I've been on sets before, blowing up at a guy in the heat of an emotionally major moment, while doing an emotionally charged job, really isn't that big of a deal. Hell any job can lead to yelling and belligerent behavior. Frankly only a big deal when fists are thrown or below-the-belt comments are made.
Is he destroying all semblance of joy for you or something? If so, I think you should move on elsewhere.
Thank you, this is what I came here to say. The whole blowing up at the guy on Terminator is a complete non-issue as far as I'm concerned and if that was the only problem people had with him (and the only "bad" thing he ever did) I would just read this as a decent guy that went to see his fans, but the guy was arrested for assaulting his sister and/or mother, maybe that hits a little to close to home for me (and I'm not trying to be sexist or condescending to women) but I have a major problem with men hitting women and to excuse or overlook that fact is just stupid. I want this to just be a heartwarming story but honestly he strikes me as being too calculating for it to be anything other then a media blitz to make sure people are still gonna go see his movie. Am I being cynical, maybe, but i refuse to ignore something that makes me hate this guy as a human being regardless of my feelings about the movies.
Bale is evidently an introspective and intense person. I'd guess he feels a degree of responsibility for what happened, and needed to be there to do what he could. I'm not saying that he does bear any responsibility, but he may be questioning whether his films played any role in this tragedy. Strange that the studio disassociated itself from his actions - or were they just making it clear that it wasn't a publicity stunt?
How bout you stop trying so hard for like 45 minutes? Think you can do that? I'm gonna say hell fuckin' no you can't cuz you apparently live on this page.
Mike, I quite agree that it's a sad, cynical attitude, but, in our defense, we developed it after witnessing "bullshit in the name of greed" time and time again. Believe me, I sincerely wish I could just see this the way others do. I hope you never lose your faith in humanity, but mine's been gone for a long time. :( Since you brought him up, I'd like to mention that I've noticed a shit-load of conspiracy theories cropping up that make the Jerker seem like a covert government extra from the X-Files. I don't buy into any of the theories at all, but there IS something that's been bugging the living hell out of me that I haven't seen any explanation for, yet. WHY did he dye his hair red instead of green? Does anyone know?
Whether or not that's the case doesn't matter. Who cares? For now, let's just believe that celebrities can be both famous and genuine. It's a feel-good moment, and that's just what the doctor ordered in the wake of tragedy.
I don't know about that, the women clowns are scary too, and politicians. Artificial "goodness" piled on thick = scary.
I looked at that video and saw two people having a bad day. I tend to believe that most people want to be good, and actually put forth effort to be good, we don't always manage it. Frankly, I've been yelled at worse than that, more than once, and on first dates no less.... So I guess what I'm saying is that most people want to be good, unless they're on a date with me.
Oh no, clowns are scary for another reason entirely. There is nothing right about a grown man going to the birthday parties of random children and wearing make up. Nothing.
Oh, of course. He'll probably be chastised for it a bit when he gets back to LA, along the lines of "why didn't you let us send you with some free Bat-merchandise??? Then we'd have customers for life!". But it is definitely an element of most humans: the ulterior motive of greed. Sure, we like to do things that we love: like act in a play, or be involved in our hobbies, or comment on message boards. But there's always a small part of us (in some, not so small) that says, "Man, I'd love to be able to make money off of this." I find it to be the human condition, and there's not much that can be done about it.
Excuse me, but anyone who assaults their own mother or sister is NOT a "good dude."
Every time Bono's name is mentioned, I always think back to that "clapping incident" at one of his concerts...
Batman never looked good in gold. Always reminds me of the early 90's Kenner figures...
Agreed. There were seriously extenuating circumstances on his Terminator: Salvation tirade. From what I read, they had been shooting for 16 hours straight, they were into the double digits of takes for that specific scene, and the guy entered the shot after the director had specifically called action. If you're that stressed, exhausted, and someone is disrespectful enough to ignore what is occurring on the set, then you deserve a little tongue lashing. I don't really think Bale was completely out of line, and I can understand how people unassociated with the business can immediately call him a dick for his actions, but I don't agree with that assessment. He seems to be a good guy, and was genuinely concerned about the folks there. Good on him.
It's interesting how people are soured on someone because of an overly-publicized outburst...everyone has a bad day, everyone yells and gets yelled at. It doesn't make them an ass ALL the time- just that way public one. I think this is a class act all the way, and selfish assholes who really are that way have no class.
Guys, that is a sadly cynical attitude. The whole "damned if you do and damned if you don't" things cheapens what he did. Besides, I don't see how this can even compare to the publicity of some jackass claiming to be joker and shooting a bunch of fans at the movie premier.
Not just good on Bale - he was asked (informally) to not visit BY the Studio (potential implied culpability?) whatever - I think the man deserves major respect for doing what he felt needed doing.
For all the talk on his ego and temper, this shows the true class act Bale is, great job by him doing it on his own.
I know. In a cynical world where everyone's too used to walking over each other, or just being out and out wicked, altruistic acts get classified as a different sort of evil by those people. The textbook definition of "damned if you do, damned if you don't" is right here in these threads.
I used to have the whole ranting in mp3 and would play it a few times when I was stressed out for any reason and relax just on the fact I was not that guy. So, thank you Christian Bale
Happier people tend to be healthier people. Most people would be happier if a celebrity showed up to visit them in the hospital.
Yeah, I was thinking, "I hope no one drops a surgical light in his vicinity ..." Seriously, it was good of him to go do this, especially since his movie had nothing to do with what happened. As has been pointed out, it could have been any highly anticipated sunner blockbuster this sicko chose. Earlier, and we might have been talking about Avengers. Things like this make you feel like there is still some humnaity left in the world. Thank you, Christian, for making me feel better about people.
I'd be more inclined to disbelieve you if you said he was a total ass. So many people come out of the woodwork to tear someone down.
Makes me like him even more. No one here will probably believe me, as I did not ask to take a photo for proof, but I met Christian Bale randomly at a Pie Face shop (both dessert and snack pies, an Australian Chain). We chatted briefly about our respective orders and the recent (at the time) visit from Obama, and he was a genuinely nice guy.
