I got to see the first episode online and it was insane! I can't believe the robots they built for this show. My mind was blown. By far the best robot fighting TV show ever made.
I posted on this upcoming SyFy show a while back, and there was some speculation as to what kind of series it would be. Turns out it is, in fact, a reality competition show in the style of Real Steel, with motion capture-controlled robots.
But now it has my attention for two other reasons:
1. Chris Jericho - former WWE champion, periodic heavy metal frontman and total smartass - is the host.
2. George Lucas' daughter, who is an MMA fighter, is one of the contestants.
Yes, George Lucas' daughter is a professional ass-kicker with a giant robot. Perhaps we'd all better watch what we say about Jar Jar and metaphorically molested childhoods.
Matt Fowler at Showrenity has more details.
More links from around the web!
If he wears that awesome LED jacket he wore last year in the WWE this series will be an instant hit :P
Someone elaborate: "motion capture controlled robots".
Does this mean people will be doing the fighting moves (like in Real Steel) and then they'll generate fake CG robots and simulate the fight?
If so, I'm no longer interested.
I used to think that Jericho could make anything entetaining, but, well, that game show of his on ABC proved that wasn't the case.
This seems more up his alley. I assume Fozzy is doing the theme music?
(Aside: He's presumably doing THIS instead of Wreslemania!?! Dammit.)
I can't wait until all international conflicts are settled with giant robots, like in the classic film Robot Jox.
@doctor_mindbender Creating a brief climax in awesomeness right before all international conflicts are settled with computerized predictions of giant robot fight outcomes, to every adrenaline junkie's great dismay.
@doctor_mindbender Live the dream Doctor_Mindbender.

I never even saw Real Steel. Until Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots full-on sponsors one of these, they just don't seem worth my time. If Hugh Jackman and giant robots didn't get me interested, MMA fighters and giant robots has no chance.
@10glfan59 If this became a show, on the other hand, I would watch it every chance I got!
@rabidronnie same on Real Steel but I'll give it a shot if there are actual skills and athleticism involved
Yes i love Jar Jar, special edition and the Blue Ray. (ok I did what you told me to Amanda now will u let loose of my arm)
@10glfan59 heck she can bend my arm - it'll be the most action I've seen since those orc chicks
So it's basically famous and semi famous celebrity fighters playing a giant Kinects game. Celebrity boxing without real physical contact. I'll pass but thank you SyFy channel for making a show about Robots and Fighting yet having me not care about it. My Psychiatrist will be so proud when he finds out.
@Someguy It's no-holds barred fighting - which has potential. Boxing and other martial arts bore me because no one in their right mind fights like that for real - they're highly stylized and as safe as possible for the obvious reasons that killing people for entertainment is... I dunno, but we can't do it and I'm going to blame Oprah. It could be interesting IF they can make it a realistic analog of actual combat. Much in the same way that Deadliest Warrior managed occasional interesting points.
okay now I'm trying to remember which is which
Katie is the writer, then there's the hottie - he has the son that works in sound
that's all I can recall - anyone else?
@Gallen_Dugall that's it - three kids.
@LYT @Gallen_Dugall AH! Thanks. This is why I couldn't make it as a stalker, you'd be great at it. Something to consider if the whole internet thing turns out to be a fad.
