This doesn't really excite me that much. The only part of the Simpsons license that really interests me is the characters and maybe a handful of environments at best. So What I would be most interested in would be a line of mini figures. But Lego doesn't do that. I wouldn't want to have to spend hundreds of dollars just to complete the family.
From that bastion of geek news, The Wall Street Journal:
Lego, looking to expand its string of partnerships with media franchises, is in talks with 20th Century Fox about making a toy set based on TV show The Simpsons, a spokesman said on Thursday.
It's about time. I mean, they are pretty much the only two properties ever to depict caucasians as bright yellow. So it's a natural fit. And with Lego also holding Marvel and DC licenses, you can now finally have Bartman join the Avengers or Justice League.
I'd imagine a video game can't be far behind. What playsets would you like to see them do? I'd take a Kwik-E-Mart, myself, but Krustylu Studios could be fun.
More links from around the web!
I think a better add on to this article instead of that Block figure pic would have been the Simpsons couch gag where they're made out of actual Legos. And if this means I get a Lego version of Simpsons Hit and Run (I know it doesn't) I'm all in.
@Blogography @kapgar @hellohahanarf @ellemmes if his happens, it’s a huge deal. And more $$ for me to spend
@martymankins @kapgar @hellohahanarf @ellemmes I don’t generally like Simpsons rendered in 3-dimensions... but am intrigued!
@Blogography @martymankins @hellohahanarf @ellemmes I tend to think The Simpsons, as a license, is about 5-10 years too late.
Obligatory comment whenever the show is mentioned. Not that I disagree with anyone who says it. The show peaked when Conan O'Brien was on the writing staff, which was like a generation ago! Still, in recent years it improved after a long slump (which IMHO, includes the weak Simpsons movie)...more focus on characters and plots than just "Homer is retarded" and "Homer becomes a ____" . Bart almost seems like a character again, as opposed to an b-plot afterthought/ Homer sidekick. The show will never be what it was, but it's something.
@GrizFu @erockradio @LEGO_Group Ooh. I like this game.
How about Lego "Deliverance?"
I wonder though if they are too late for this property. I know of old, die hard fans, who are not as excited about it as they use to be.
Still cool.
Reminds me of that Clip from Community.
The answer to that guy is "Lego's profits were in decline and licensed properties saved the company's ass".
@erockradio - You can afford it... Didn't you win the lottery? #ThatOleGag @lego_group http://t.co/PrjbxApH3o
I'd be really pumped for this if it happened. The collector in me would try and get the entire set of minifigs. I wonder how they would do the scale. Adults would be the standard sized minifig. The kids would all have the shortened legs. Where would that leave Maggie? Do they have an even smaller size?
@Big.Jim.Slade and do they give her a handgrip so Marge can hold her?
Well, since I've never really watched The Simpsons,

But, if they made Futurama on the other hand.....
If the Simpsons line does well, I would imagine Futurama would be next down the line. I'd love to have a Calculon or Robot Devil in Lego.
Buzz Lightyear, Indiana Jones, Galaxy Patrol, Deadpool, Chewbacca, Bartman all I need is a Lego Green Lantern to complete my LEGO Justice Avengers League.
@erockradio just be happy they aren't edible Simpsons Legos that he could pay with AND eat !? @lego_group could make #erockeathimselftodeath
