Hey! Martin! Leave Jon Snow alone!
All in all it's just a...nother fight by the wall.
(as always, TV spoilers only)
is somehow bangin this guy in the show (s06s upcoming boat trip)
(and which also happens to be @GallenDugalls you gonna get it :D face )
*sams BOOTY FACE*
meanwhile the only other REDHEADs we all care about :D
(rose and mel )
Here's my detailed analysis:
THAT WAS FUCKING AWESOME!!!
How much of the fight could have been avoided if they had some spears? Guys climbing up the wall? When they get to the top jab them. Guys mucking about the gate? When they get close jab them. Guys climbing over the gate? Once again just jab them as they come up. Swords are not proper battle implements - never have been. Swords are a back up weapon, sometimes a status symbol, and an every day self defense weapon. Also why don't they wear armor? Soft leather is not armor.
Please take a number and as your enemy is dispatched. Please wait for your on-on-one fight to the death. Thank you and have a nice day.
everyone break off and fight single combat, because THAT'S how you make up for being out numbered
@andre_morelo Can we just add how wonderfully foreshadowy Jon Snow knowing nothing is? I mean, if certain theories are true.
@andre_morelo I don't think I get this. But I haven't had my coffee yet.
@jaganar @GallenDugall Dude, watch the fat pink spoilers please.
NIGHTS WATCH.... AHOOOOOOO
@Gallen_Dugall I get the impression that the Knight's Watch is one of those essential services that's been subjected to ruthless budget cuts. :)
Somebody's missing his Lindsey Beige fix...
On the other hand I'm kind of impressed by how little GRRM actually
pulls from any source; historical, traditional or literary works. His work has an internal logic all its own. Often in reality humans fail to grasp the obvious and create over complicated solutions to simple problems. It just makes me want to walk up to the characters and say - ya-know there's a much easier solution for what you're trying to accomplish here.
thats the JJ version gally of fighting
@GallenDugall To be fair the main threat was not in the castle and tgey are still outnumbered
cousin LEMMY that was an assumption ya idjit .... especially since she kissed him back yesterday .
@Gallen_Dugall You'd be surprised at how much of the books is directly cribbed from history, then.
@Kozmik_Pariah @GallenDugall Yeah; Castle Black was designed specifically to not be very defendable from the south.
@Kozmik_Pariah just complaining about the total absence of tactics by the people fighting from a defensive position. Also Hollywood one at a time fights that take forever. I'd also complain about them not noticing the camp fire of the force camped about a hundred feet away from their main gate, but I suppose that could be just how it was framed.
@jaganar @hyalopterouslemur There is no way you could predict some of the things you said.
Well, the last episode of the season is called Children. I hope it's about Daenerys, but unlike Jon, I know something.
(As an aside, fun fact, I now use "John Snow knows nothing." to poke fun at germ-theory deniers.)
@skeeter_dan @Gallen_Dugall Depends on what you mean. Like Aerys is obviously pulled from Caligula. (Jaime killing him is a huge sign.)
Mostly it's the worst elements of history and mythology, with an added dose of dystopia. For example, the Dothraki are far more misogynistic than the Mongols or plains Indians.
Other times, he deconstructs it. For instance, Lohengrin has death at a wedding. The Bible does the same thing with the story of Dinah. In fact, quite a few epics use a wedding as a pretext for mass murder. Martin deconstructs it when, well, suffice it to say, hospitality is still exactly as serious a matter as life and death.
@skeeter_dan well the back stabbing stuff is universal - but I'm specifically talking about the world building stuff. Not just the weird stuff like giants wall scythes, but in the military stuff that there are good records of - we know how many civilizations from many periods in time conducted sieges and assaults and this isn't one of them.
@GeneralTekno @Kozmik_Pariah @GallenDugall Yep, because of the Night's King.
Hollywood gets their ideas about tactics from targets at shooting galleries, I think.
@GeneralTekno the mission station at Rorkes Drift wasn't designed to be defensible from any direction at all
i only read the chapters that mattered :)
DANY , ARYA and tyrion i avoided a lot of chapters cus i didnt want to ruin it for myself.
the one thing you can count on EVERY SEASON HAD A BARBACUE .
1, the witch.
3. the masters of the unsullied
4.the family of stannis sister at dragonstone
now pass my BBQ SAUCE :3 and make it TARGARYAN
Wildlings aren't civilized yo
It's literally the only reason the Wall is still standing, is that the Wildlings don't know how to siege.
@Aeryl Siege warfare does not work that way! IRL sieges were more about cutting off supply lines. If the wildlings could do that, they'd already be on the other side of the Wall.
