Michael Bay Celebrates Tanks-Giving in Transformers

CHUD reports that Megatron will indeed be back for Transformers 2, which should surprise no one not currently in a coma. But the real news is that Megatron will ditch his indistinguishable-from-Starscream jet transformation mode to an indistinguishable-from-Brawl tank mode, which at least has some precedent in the toys and cartoons, making it the least offensive change Bay has made to franchise so far.
How does Megatron come back? I'm glad you asked. Apparently, the Autobots resurrect him to fight the Fallen, which CHUD eloquently describes as the "Satan equivalent Transformer from the recent comic books." Given the Transformers in the movie seem to have the mental acuity of four-year-olds, this does not shock me.
PS—I'm really sorry about the hideous article title. It got stuck in my head, and I saw no reason why I should have to suffer it alone.

Actually Megatron has been a plane four times before the movie. There was the little known Machine Wars Megatron. The whole line was a Kay-Bee toys exclusive I think. In Robots In Disguise he had 6 different modes, one of them a jet. In Energon he was a large bomber type plane. And finally in Cybertron he was a triple changer that went from robot, to race car to jet fighter.
I'd rather him have been a cannon or something too, but there was PLENTY of precedent for him being a jet in the first movie.
Posted 08/05/2008 at 06:23:45 PMI seem to remember from the back of my Optimus Prime box that Prime's tech specs listed his intelligence as a 10. So why the hell would he resurrect one totally evil Transformer hell bent on destroying the world to fight another evil Transformer also hell bent on destroying the world?
Also, I'm amazed Bay didn't make Megatron some new car he could get advertising money for...
