He never has to come to ToplessRobot if he doesn't want to, and this phenomenom will not follow him around. So, if you look at it another way, he's the one being vindictive. People from here aren't going to Yiffstar to humiliate him. He's kinda bringing the latter part of this on himself.

You can call it justified or unjustified, but truth told, if he wants to forget about this, all he has to do is not come to a site he didn't frequent before someone told him his fan fiction was featured there.

As someone who draws Anthro-art, it's guys like this that are an embarrassment, and the acceptance by the "furries" of guys like this is the reason I've distanced myself from the community. I've always taken FFF to be an extension of TR's goal to bring together many different fandoms under the (Star Wars) blanket of nerdery while at the same time being as dejectedly self-loathing as possible. While people have clamored lately for the, uh, more niche fic fandoms because of the WTF factor, FFF has featured the dirty underbellies of many a fandom. While we all love (lvoe) justifying our oddness in some way (I may be a rabid anime fan, but at least I don't play WoW!) we can all probably relate to being guiltily aroused at something outside of the norm (Do you remember where you were when David Tennant kissed John Barrowman?)

Now I've read it twice, and something struck me as unclear. Maybe it's just me but nowhere does he says that we'll get banned from the "yiffstar" site. Topless Robot is an entertainment site that doesn't participate in bullying. Want to see attacks? Ever seen what happens when you piss off the SomethingAwful goons or the 4chan guys? It's not pretty.

The entire reason some places exist is for the sake of cyber-bullying but this isn't one of them. Making fun of something isn't cyber-bullying. Last I checked, FFF is for the sake of showing off a part of the internet that is rather horrifying. Nobody goes after the original poster. The only reason it's happening now is because the poster came HERE and shot back when all he needed to do was ignore it and, next week, it would have vanished into oblivion. Nobody would have given a crap.

Oh, and the whole lawsuit thing is pretty much nonsensical. I've had friends trying to get their stuff back after putting it online...the response is usually the same: you put it in the open, online and allowed it into the public domain of your own volition. Thus, tough luck. Deal with it.

Copyright infringement is tenuous at best, since there's no "effect upon the market", the fourth factor of the fair use test. At best, he'd be able to collect token damages and at worst the suit would be laughed out of most U.S. courts as a nuisance suit since there's no way to feasibly prove damages - reprinting a story that's already been placed into the public domain, for the purposes of humour and satire of the work, is likely a non-issue.

Not being familiar with cyberstalking statutes, I couldn't say if there's grounds there, but I'd think that the proverbial mountain coming to Mohammed would eliminate anything in that regard. I certainly haven't encountered a civil judge in my three years of practice that wouldn't laugh such a claim out of court, but, well, you never know when a judge will have woken up on the wrong side of the bed.

As for mental trauma... well, the eggshell skull doctrine would certainly seem to apply here, but without an underlying tort I sure as hell don't see any grounds there.

The one thing I've learned from this experience is that FFF is written seriously by people. When I first read them, I thought they were written by people trying to be akwardly funny with too much time on their hands. The fact that people write, read, and enjoy theses scares me to no end. a) Ignore it,

c) Contact the person in charge with a legitimate complaint and politely ask for it to be removed,

now until I read this news post, I'd never even heard of yiffstar, so this is a particularly crushing disappointment to me.

I have no idea how I will live with this.
