Seriously, DC. If it means I can just read about Bruce Wayne kicking ass throughout time and him putting odd bat-logos on a variety of costumes, I'm honestly not sure if I'd mind him never getting back to the present. Much like the Bat-Pilgrim was the cover of Return of Bruce Wayne #2, Bat-Beard the Pirate here is the cover to #3. If you don't find the idea of a Batman-Pirate to be totally awesome, I... well, I honestly can't fathom that anyone would have that opinion, let alone why. Head over to DC's Source to see cover #4 and, uh... "Bat" Masterson.

You know, Pirates didn't really dress like that. The fashion was applied to the images in the mid 1800's because it looked "quaint." Minus several thousand points out of ten for historical accuracy folks.

Disagree? Well, you're wrong. You just are.

Lithroe replied to B.C. Cakes:
Accurate or not, it makes for one hell of a picture. This is art, not history. I seem to remember those being separate classes in school.

B.C. Cakes replied to Lithroe:
Weird. Because I remember taking a class called Art History. We must've gone to different schools.

Lithroe replied to B.C. Cakes:
Lol. Probably. Art History and History are two diffrent things though. Unless Dali was a pirate.

I'm on your side, dude. This is silly, and I'm kind of been over pirates since I was 12 years old.

Batman jumping through time, dressing up and doing all this goofy crap? It's just cheesy and makes Batman even more of a joke than he has been these past five years or so.
-
And when he gets back, Bruce has to deal with Red Robin, his son Robin, Nightwing Bat-Man, Batwoman, Batgirl, and probably five more new Bat characters that will spring out of the woodwork. Maybe DC will mix things up and give us a Bat-Flash, or a Bat-Lantern, seeing as there are half a dozen Flashes and Green Lanterns (for Earth Alone) running around.
-
Siege is much more interesting than Batman playing pirates in historically inaccurate garb.

All we need is Alfred as AL with the little data pad...
Jeez, I seriously could see that happening.

Grant talked about the 6 issues in a recent interview
Caveman
Witch Hunter
Pirate
Cowboy
Hardboiled PI
Dark Knight

Keepoffthegrass replied to Rick:
hmmm...
I feel like a read those already when they were called Elseworlds.
Batman: Gotham Noir
Dark Joker: The Wild
It just sounds silly. Did they seriously mention bringing in a holographic Alfred to guide Bruce Wayne home?

The pirate thing?
That's cool, too.

Zortt1 replied to Mitchell Craig:
I hope to Zombie Jesus that in the cowboy one, he rides by a tavern or something and Jonah Hex is looking outside and gives a WTF look at cowboy Bats. Hex doesn't even have to be in the plot or anything, I just want a quick nod and then back to the action involving Bats.
Posted 02/09/2010 at 12:20:54 PM
Rick replied to Zortt1:
Grant has already confrimed Jonah Hex for the Cowboy Issue
Morrison: You'll see a lot of that stuff, like the growth of Gotham, the bloodlines of certain characters and so forth. There are DCU guest stars in most of the stories. The first one has Vandal Savage, of course and Anthro's family are there as well, and we see the origin of 'Kong the Untamed'. The Black Pirate. Jonah Hex.

Sure, sending Batman into the past in various time eras is cool while there are cool outfits...but what if they can't bring him back in time before they get to the dumb/offensive outfits? See Batman all fopped up like a French aristocrat with a powdered wig and tights, the Marquis de Bat? Or a hooded klansman, the Ku Klux Bat?

I know they're keeping this short to get Bruce back to Gotham but it would have been so much more fun to make this a stand-alone ongoing series. Somehow I don't think there is anyone who doesn't know that he's going to get back to Gotham anyway, so it's not like it's going to drive the fanbase insane if the "Batman Leap" series is running parallel to him returning to the regular titles.
Instead it's going to be another comic where Grant Morrison tries to jam a Wikipedia's worth of ideas into six issues and it makes no flippin' sense to anyone other than Grant Morrison...

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Pirates were opportunistic, hyper-violent, cowardly, villianous, back-stabbing, traitorous, murdering, raping, pillaging, criminals. They weren't the rebellious vigillante anti-heroes fighting a corrupt system that we see in pop culture revision (though the legit system was plagued with corruption). You can call me a stick in the mud, and I'm fine with creative license/disbelief suspension, but how are they gonna reconcile a just and moral Batman with this characterization? Is he gonna be a pirate that hunts pirates while never doing anything pirate-y? I don't know why I'm fixated on this particular implausibility over others, but I am.

I totally agree. I've discussed this with my friends in length -- Bruce must have plopped down in caveman land and chased after the nearest giant bat so he could kill it with his bare hands and wear it.
And then he even bothered to find a normal sized bat to have rot across his chest.
WHAT A MAN.
(Also, who does he fight in that era? Cavemen who steal the other cavemen's meat?)
