Has Hollywood become so free from the constraints of creativity that it actually needs to reboot a series not even a decade old. Not only that, Raimi's 1&2 were excellent movies that do NOT require a reboot. I can understand ignoring #3 and starting from there, but otherwise, this is getting ridiculous. Oh well, at least we'll be ready for next years reboot of this years reboot of Spiderman. Keeps us from getting bored I guess.
-
why not Lady Gaga as Gwen Stacy and let this all come full circle?
-
I think I'll keep a count. Twilight jokes so far: Two. It's a surprising amount of constraint, in fact, since Vampires Suck is out right now.
-
Swish! There goes the reference! (It's Twilight, may the Alucards curse them all. He's saying they'll cast Spidey as a vampire. Well, that was the first bit. I think Inception is a LITTLE too complicated to reference/shill to the audience, Mr. Marketing.)
-
if the collective Marvel Movieverse had not came into fruition and "The Avengers" is nothing more than a distant nerd dream, then i would've been seething in rage over this. as such, i could only sigh and give this movie a pass, opting to save my money for "Captain America" and "Thor" insted.
-
i'd buy THAT for a dollar!!
-
i'm just fed up period, every hotshot director needs to piss their mark on a franchise and it loops and loops and loops and - nothing EVER evolves story-wise. Just another flash in the pan to be replaced in the next ten years like some Freddy or Jason dung flop. Think i'll stick to one shots and just read a book or comic.
-
Really Paul? You loved 3? are you a troll or a child? If you're a troll go fuck yourself. and if you're a child (12 or under) I apologize for swearing at a child lol. but seriously if you loved 3, go read the comics and realize how god awful spiderman 3 was... Both in terms of a comic book movie and just a regular movie.
-
Honestly I don't know how this'll work out. cuz as much as they fucked up in Spiderman 3, I think Toby M. made a fairly believeable Peter Parker. the guy they got now... A. he's almost 30 (27 or 28 right?) and supposed to be a highschooler? Secondly look at ANY picture of him. Is it just me or does he not look mildly retarded in EVERY SINGLE PICTURE. I just think it's gonna be a disaster... Although really unless they were gonna do Spiderman 4: Don't worry, Spiderman 3 was all a crazy dream sequence. A reboot is really the only option. Now if only they can (sadly) redo the xmen movies as X3 and on (wolverine, first class is gonna be crap etc.) is just a waste of film and money.
-
Knowing Marvel, I wouldn't be surprised if the last shot of the movie is Peter walking away, dejected, in the rain...with MJ in the foreground, lying crumpled in a trash can.
-
now if they could just get Black Cat to throw up in Peter's lap
-
Good. Maybe they'll finally get Peter's love life right. Gwen was the love of his life and should be the main love interest. Betty and Liz would be nice as possible ones and have them in the mix, but Gwen is Peter's main love interest.
-
I heard a rumnor that they will upoate spidey to make him trendier to a younger crowd. so they will make him gay. and sparkly...
-
What the fuck are you talking about?
-
I think they should just say "screw it" make a theatrical adaptation of the Japanese Spider-Man. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcxioU7AMM4
-
And Jennifer Aniston as Aunt May
-
It's hollywood, they'll have gwen but she'll bang norman osborn. They don't know when to stop.
-
Personally, I hate MJ. Felicia Hardy is way hotter, way more bad ass, and did I say hotter?
-
That's my point, Andrea looked like she could be everyone's grandmother, it was ridiculous. It was yet another reason that 9021Lameness was so easy to ridicule. Man that show was a piece of shit. By the time the sequels come around the actor is going to be pushing 30 but we're suppose to buy him as just out of HS? Maybe it'll work but they're taking a big chance. I'm just saying, you want a HS Spidey, at least cast early 20's, not someone on the doorstep to 30.
-
Man, you hit the nail on the head. Even in part 1 she's just MJ "light" at best. And with the sequels she only becomes more annoying. It's not right but no wonder that Petey punched her in in the mouth in part 3.
-
I'm really looking forward to the new movie! I'm not too keen on the "high-school MJ" concept - it's just weird. I'm a Gwen Stacy fan, and would like nothing better than to see her on the big screen. But if they go for high-school Peter, then it won't make any sense - but having Liz as the female lead would be such a turn off... It has to be either Gwen or Felicia, they're the only options that make sense, I guess.
-
I'd be willing to bet that the film makers make Peter's love interest a character no-one's heard of, even the rabid Spider-Man fans. Why? Because this will set the movie in a "different universe" as the comics, and because Marvel Comics doesn't have enough characters as it is.
-
LOL, that was an old reference alright! But good point.
-
THAT would actually be really cool!
-
Nice.
-
Meh. If they did something really different with it, it might be interesting. Like if they went with the noir version I'd be all over it.
-
I don't mind the lack of MJ either. I'm very interested in this movie. I think it will be great.
-
I'm all for it... Unlike Superman, Peter actually dated a bunch of women before MJ became his go-to love interest... so I'd prefer a little more variety, especially since we're going back to high school with peter anyway... I say they go with Betty Brant... but that's just me
-
Using Gwen instead of MJ is a good way to separate the new franchise from the old. An even better way though, would be to add in that stuff that Michael Stracynski introduced about Peter being a mystical bridge between human and spider. I'm sure that will be well received by audiences.
-
given how sony wants a total start from scratch take on spider man . can see not keeping mary Jane this time and going with Gwen or black cat. mostly gwen for then they can bring the green goblin back again. though odds are its gwen as the new love interest.
-
So what blasphemous violation of Spider-Man canon will filmmakers perpetrate this time? I'm a little nostalgic for the "no organic webshooters" outcry. 20 minutes into the first movie nobody cared about that anymore. Spider-Man 3 was especially shocking in its awfulness because Raimi and that cast had delivered in two films in a row. The studio's insistence on shoehorning Venom in was only one of its many problems. SM3 was bafflingly awful, a Lovecraftian assault on sanity.
-
Um, Bryce Dallas Howard was Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man 3, who, it was indicated, Peter had just met. I guess this would have to be a reboot to tell their romance in high school. I liked 1 and 2 and thought 3 was goofy but cool, if you took out the poorly told Venom story, the ridiculous Sandman plot where he was Uncle Ben's real killer, the terrible Mary Jane/Gwen Stacy romance plot, and the lame Harry Osborne saga. So yeah, most of the movie. I haven't laughed so hard in my life as I did at dancing emo Peter Parker.
-
"Especially when they say they're dealing with Spidey's teenage years and they cast a 27 year old?! " Never watched 90210 / Gossip Girl / etc., I take it. I think the actress who played Andrea on 90210 was eligible for the Denny's senior discount by the time the series ended.
-
My vote is for Beyonce Knowles as Lois Lane. Perfect
-
Spiderman 2 is generally considered the best of the trilogy with the first one close behind. S3 was a train wreck with the studio forcing Venom down Raimi's throat. I don't get the need for a reboot either. Especially when they say they're dealing with Spidey's teenage years and they cast a 27 year old?! Don't mind the lack of MJ because as others have stated, she didn't show up in Spidey's life until college. I'll keep an open mind until we start seeing trailers and scenes but can we at least agree this reboot should be better than the musical?
-
I've never liked the "Peter and MJ hooked up in high school" conceit from Ultimate and the movieverse; MJ is better plot-wise as the more wild party girl that Peter gets together with after he goes a few rounds with the more innocent Betty / Gwen types.
-
This is the first thing I've heard about the Spider-Man reboot that actually made me take notice. I'm still veeeeeerrrry sceptical though.
-
As long as she's not behind the door trying to sing and failing at acting (and being a redhead; good looking) I'll be ok.
-
I like the Kristen Stewart idea, but you've got to take it another direction. Kristen Stewart is 'Becca' the new kid at the high school. And Peter crawls through her window and stares at her while she's sleeping. Has he the right to share his curse? Or should he just snap her neck? Then rock-abbed Flash Thompson enters the picture and it's a love triangle. And Thompson is secretly someone which Spider-Man needs to fight like Mysterio or something so we can work in a whole dreamscape Inception thing.
-
Not even the ones with the Bat Nipples? And Chris O'Donnel as Angsty the Acrobat? Don't get me wrong, that shit was childhood epic, and I personally love them, but really? Burton-Nipples-Nolan? That's the shittiest sandwich ever.
-
She may not be the love interest, but how much do you want to bet that movie ends with Peter opening the front door and Mary Jane being on the other side saying "Face it Tiger. You just hit the jackpot."
-
I'm wishing for Felicia Hardy or Gwen.
-
You'd be having a boner too if you were standing beside Aunt May.
-
Hollywood and their continuities... There are so many comic books, story variations and timelines that I don't know why they think it is better to make every movie follow each other. I think we all know these major characters and that a movie could stand on its own without the whole origin/love story/to be continued plot.
-
Clearly mark webb can do great human drama so i think having all the girls spidey's had in his life could add a lot to film
-
No, he's a college student now because they cast a 27 year old.
-
Doesn't mean she's not in it, she could just be a supporting character. I think the love interest will probably be Gwen Stacy, though I think Winstead would have mad a nice Betty Brant.
-
BETTY then LIZ. And that pic above is one of the worst 'official' drawings I've Spider-Man I've ever seen.
-
LOL did anybody notice the Spiderman's boner in that pic? nobody? :P
-
Swish!
-
I guess all my hopes for a "redheaded" Emma Stone being cast as MJ are shot to Hell!
-
The reason MJ isn't in the story is because he's still in highschool. Peter doesn't officially meet MJ in the comics, until a bit later on. In the mean time, he dates a girl named Liz, and also starts to get interested in Gwen. MJ appears roughly round the same time that Peter starts dating Gwen.
-
Yeah Betty is Peter's High school age crush right? Gwen was Collage and MJ/Black Cat were the love interests in his 'adult' life. Gwen was always my favourite, but save her and kill her off in the second.
-
Wait, Mary Jane was in the Rami Spider-man movies? perhaps she was stood behind that whiney, depressing, annoying and unattractive woman that Spidey spent most of the trilogy dating.
-
Betty Brant?
-
As long as Aunt May is in it. Now that's a hot piece of a**
-
I thought it was universally agreed upon that no-one shall badmouth the Batman movies under penalty of death?
-
Are you trolling or just confused?
-
Personally, I loved 1 and 3, and I'm pretty disappointed that they're going to just reboot everything and do an origin story, rather than continue with that series. I don't really have a lot if interest in a new Spiderman franchise.
-
Heh. Look at Aunt May trying to stare nobly into the distance with her little clenched fists. It's adorable!
-
Perfect! Lets make a film!
-
Kristen Stewart obviously as Vicki Vale. Obviously
-
If they're going for Peter in High School, and, I assume another origin story, Gwen would make the most sense. If they're doing this purely as a cash grab, Black Cat would make the most sense. More Black Cat action figures would sell than Gwen Stacey. Chances are: they'll make Gwen Black Cat. I just threw up in my mouth... and yours.
-
I could care less honestly, because it will suck regardless. All I can say about the movie franchise is that the first movie wasn't bad for a comic book adaptation. Second one was... meh... and the third was the biggest piece of shit I've ever seen in my life. No interest in a "reboot" of a series of movies that only goes back 8 years to begin with. Ugh. They have ruined Spidey for me just like they did Batman and most of the other major heroes of both the Marvel and DC universe.
