I don't ever remember in the books the actual events described in the Rains of Castamere described in any kind of details. Its basically the Lannister family anthem and a popular song in general. I defy someone to quote me the chapter and book where it is explained the Rains of Castamere is about Tytos Lannister wiping out a minor house of nobility. I'm not saying that isn't what it is about but I don't remember ever actually reading that in the book. I don't like lore that isn't in the books appearing on a TV show.
"The Rains of Castamere" is likely the most famous song from George R.R. Martin's A Song of

Hate it, it's far too herp derp grimdark. The song is supposed to be sung by bards and have a folk sort of feel.
Here's a far superior version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...
Grimdark? I guess, but it's HBO--not to mention, when you look at it, the lyrics aren't supposed to be sung very happy. Not all folk songs are folk-happy.
Though I do I wish there were two versions. While I like the dark version, there should also be a more mock-dramatic version for when it's sung outside of "the scene". It would create a nice contrast to expect the lighter version and get some dude singing it like this instead.
"This is the world we live in now." Love that quote. Now how about we NOT live in a world where the books decline in quality and take eight years to publish.
well, books 4 and 5 are setup books. They're not going to be another Storm of Swords. That doesn't mean they've declined in quality. In fact, Feast is my second favorite in the entire series.
@Hascow I agree with you. People who expect constant brinkmanship are the reason Spiderman 3 and Xmen 3 sucked so bad.
Pretty shitty taste. Book 4 is a huge fail. Book 5 is a bit better but still a waste of time. ASOIAF so far has ended with A Storm of Swords... but I do hope that book 6 recovers.
I cried a manly tear at the somber and haunting melody.
Then I anger-fucked my sister.

Chilling to the core and humbling as hell, especially if you know where it is played at... Brilliant work as always from the Game of Thrones production team!
I'm gonna be honest. I don't really like it. I'm sure the scene will play well to this, but its nothing like what I imagined it sounding like.
In the book, in that scene, the music starts in with a band and it flows in well enough with the prior celebratory music that no one seems to notice it at first.
I'd be surprised if this version shows up anywhere during the show proper. I think it's for all intents and purposes, a cover.
The National? Like, the guys who did "Exile, Vilify" from Portal 2? Holy shit, I love it before I've even heard it.
Okay, nice. Now I want a rousing chorus of "The Bear and the Maiden Fair", preferably performed by Hot Pie.
Man oh man, the Blackwater episode is coming up on Sunday and I cannot wait. Here's hoping it can match the jaw-dropping gut punch that was its Season 1 equivalent, Baelor.
Music is perhaps the most powerful ally the show has that the books lack. The show's central theme is testament enough to that. Moreover, I can't mentally put a decent tune to any of the songs in the book - and this one is by far the most important.
Just hearing this has me chilled to the bone. I'm not ready.
I'm wondering why this is in the season 2 soundtrack? The scene for this song shouldn't be till season 4-ish.
mmmm, according to how things are going and with interviews with d&d... it's most likely that The Scene will be Season 3's finale so... it's no odd to have it before hand and ready to make TV explode.
The books start introducing the song long before That Scene, otherwise the payoff wouldn't have been as good. I think you first hear about it near the beginning of Book Three, and some of that has been folded into Season Two.
I am not and never will be emotionally prepared for The Scene with this version of the song playing over it.
I actually have goose bumps. I must get my copy of Storm of Swords out and play this.
