Travelers Tales released what I believe is the first trailer for their Lego Lord of the Rings game, and it might have just beaten Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes for my Most Anticipated Game Based on Building Block Toy Versions of a Nerdy Franchise. Kotaku has some details on the game -- it sounds like it's going to be a little more adventure-y and puzzle-y than the more action-y Lego Batman games -- complete with quests and side-quests, even. All I know is that if Gandalf doesn't cast a giant Lego brick for the Balrog to step on, and then fall off the bridge while recoiling in pain, a beautiful opportunity will have been missed.

I love what TT has done with these games, I really do. And I will most likely purchase this particular title...but...well...does anyone else feel like this game has a serious lack of LEGO for a LEGO games. Sure, there are lots of minifigs (and who doesn't love minifigs), but not very many LEGO.
glad to see the franchise being exploited and shit all over...tolkien is rolling in his grave
WooHoo Lego game. Lego Lord of the Rings. Now all we need is a Lego Dr. Who game and I will never see the Sun again.
I was hoping that the game's collapsing staircase sequence in Moria would be much more in keeping with the humor in the other Lego games.
Oh well, at least Lego Balrog is fucking awesome.
I dunno, I think the spoken dialogue in the game really detracts from what made the Lego games so much fun.
Yeah, disapointed in that too, I get the story is so complicatd but was hoping for them doing wordless stuff on the Ring history and reactions to drawings and such. They managed to make Harry Potter work that way, would have been nice to see it here. Hopefully, they just wanted to push out a good trailer, cut the dialouge down a bit in the real game and more of the tongue-in-cheek humor.
But come on, Lego Helm's Deep is going to kick ass.
Yeah, especially if they're just going to awkwardly recycle dialogue from the movies for the entire game. Ian McKellan's voice sounds ridiculous coming out of a little Lego figure, and not in a funny way.
I agree-- it was wittier when they made their points and dialouge with picture signs, pointing at things, and goofy non descript utterances..
Though, on a somewhat more serious note, it might be cool if you and your party get to "share" the one ring, and by "share", I mean that you can kill one another and take the ring for a big bonus at the end of the level. Hopefully that would inspire "The Four Swords"-like levels of infighting amongst friends and relatives.
