The only people I want touching Walking Dead in video game format for now on is Valve or Telltale. Everybody else can fuck the hell off.
It was a gloriously mean tease to leave us with the briefest of reunion moments between the Dixon brothers. The series returns in a week and a half, but in the meantime, here's just a little bit more of Daryl and Merle. Looks like they may have to face...Trial by Combat!
Sorry, here's the real one:
Speaking of Daryl and Merle, they'll also be appearing in the new first-person shooter game The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct. Here's a look at some gameplay:
Hey, you know how the creative types behind the series keep telling us that it's not really about the zombies; it's about the characters? I'm thinking Activision may pull a similar line here - "It's not really about the graphics; it's about the way the gameplay holds a mirror up to ourselves!" A mirror that says we don't expect tie-in games to be all that good.

Damn. Even that frustrating piece of shit Dead Island looked better than that boring bland mess. A friend talked me and a couple other friends into joining him playing through and it was pretty broken and poorly executed. This somehow looks even less polished. I think I've seen Counter Strike fan mods that look better than this. Was that a zombie or a Ken doll they attacked at one point. Damn.
I looked it up and it seems the developer is Terminal Reality. They did Blooraynme and the decently acclaimed recent Ghostbusters game. Though they also did movie games based on B;Blair Witch and AeonFlux and the Star Wars Kinnect dance game. Ugh. Though waaay back in the day they did Fury3 / Terminal Velocity which I played the shit out of in high school.
Still.. I have less hope for this game than the survivors of The Walking Dead/ Plus Tell Tale already has an amazing adventure game going. Huh. Woulda thiunk adventure games would make such a comeback and one would outdo an FPS as the better.. even great.. movie adaptation game.
That Flash Gordon may have been made as camp and goofy fun but darn if it doesn't outshine most of what gets made now-a-days in terms of raw artistic and technical skill on display. The effects they used to make the Hawkmen are probably a thousand times better than whatever CGI gets crapped out for the Justice League's Hawkperson. I'm not even going to get into the soundtrack because just thinking about it is making me queue it up...
Aside from the sub-par graphics & dull gameplay that prove they shouldn't have at least released a trailer this early, I have noticed that a game starring Daryl Dixon features a distinctive lack of crossbows, which I find to be beyond unacceptable. Daryl + Crossbows = PRIORITY ONE, DAMMIT.
So at this moment, I would like to sum up my thoughts on this trailer in the words of T-Dog: "I am appalled & find this current situation to be incredibly unacceptable & even comparable to the type of suffering one would encounter in the deepest pits of Hades."
*five weeks and a half
Fixed that for Luke
Also lol for AMC showing us old sneak peak footage and calling it new!
@Kozmik_Pariah Good call, now i remember seeing both of these things during the Talking Dead episode that followed the mid season finale.
Also, is it just me, or does the 28 Days Later soundtrack being on here make anyone else want to burn Activision to the ground?
The game doesn't interest me as much but i'm telling you February cannot come fast enough...Where is my TARDIS when i need it?!?
@Canadian.Scott Was it a Type 40? Dodgy chameleon circuit? If so, I have bad news... I'm afraid it's been stolen.
Well there goes all of my excitement for the day. I guess I've just been spoiled with the Left 4 Dead games and Dead Island.
@chasexclamationpoint I read a couple comments about how disappointing the game is, what is the reason? THe gameplay looks just like every other FPS?
@Canadian.Scott @chasexclamationpoint Also, go play Telltale's Walking Dead game (seriously, it's friggin' awesome) & see how much the game captures the look & spirit of the Walking Dead universe. Then look at this trailer again & tell me how effective it is. Telltale proved that licensed games can actually go above & beyond, whereas this aims to prove...Well, jack squat.
@East_Threadly @chasexclamationpoint @SlyDante777 @Canadian.Scott games with cell-shading are usually hit or miss. Telltale's Take and the Walking Dead iOS game proved it can be done again.
Haha I just don't want a huge influx of titles like there were in the early 2000's. Good God, Playstation developers really took full advantage of that look.
@chasexclamationpoint @SlyDante777 @Canadian.Scott The market for FPS games is clogged, looking just OK really doesn't cut the mustard. I think they should have made it look like the comic, which is excellent.
@SlyDante777 @Canadian.Scott @chasexclamationpoint I completely agree with you. The first season of Telltale's Walking Dead game is my pick for GOTY. I mean, a game that can make you emotionally attached to it's characters is good; a game that can make you regret tiny decisions (that you once thought were throwaway choices) is phenomenal.
@Canadian.Scott @chasexclamationpoint graphics-wise, it's not looking too pretty. The textures of every zombie has that weird "clay"-like appearance found in most games running on the Unreal engine. Executions and "pushing" zombies with weapons seems to be a little stiff. Haha at this point in the history of gaming, Goldeneye for N64 shouldn't have better ragdoll physics than a current-gen game. But eh, I can get behind any game as long as the gameplay holds up.
The big thing they were touting about Survival Instinct is that it's a "stealth" zombie game. Guns, breaking things, and loud interactions are supposed to draw attention from zombies. I know it's just an early build (well, I sure hope it is...) but in the little preview, the player runs next to zombies, bashes in some heads, and uses a flashlight without being noticed. Yeah, there's that whole "bottle" scene where one turns his head but that's about it. I've got my fingers crossed that Activision polishes things up quite a bit before they officially launch it.
