I think Sam says this every other year... "I'm going to write it soon."
And then next year he comes out with Darkman IV or signs on to direct the remake of Krush Groove. Just watch.
No, not the remake. An honest-to-goodness Sam Raimi fourquel. As per Bleeding Cool, the brothers Raimi are planning on writing the script this summer.
Now, they may not end up coming up with a script that they like, so this is extremely tentative. Nonetheless, it's hard not to speculate irresponsibly (and play with Photoshop) anyway. If the remake works, we could have a very unique situation of two simultaneous Evil Dead franchises in different realities...and then get Bryan Singer to combine them both somehow. Just kidding.

I'd like it if this sequel was of the same tone & style as Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness. That would be great for people like me who prefer those films over the direction the remake headed in.
Hell, even Drag Me To Hell was more of the same tone as Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness than the Evil Dead remake is in my opinion.
i wouldn't hold my breath....but i have to say that if this was really happening it'd make me so unbelievably happy, i'd have to burst!
I know i'm in the minority here, but i think the REMAKE looks really horribly LAME (bruce can say whatever he wants....still looks like a shit movie), so now i can officially ignore the hell out of it (at least until sam raimi tells us that he won't do evil dead4)!!! YAY!!!

Yes, the fourth one will happen in modern day Michigan. Where S-mart's corporation has moved out of Michigan and Ash is out of work when the Governor of Michigan uses his undead army to attack. Now Ash has to stop the army while trying to get a new job.

SO they are going to do a fourth movie and someone else is rebooting the series and that one will probably overlap this one...

So now I believe they are making a Evil Dead/Doctor Who crossover.
@ToplessRobot I now can't help but feel that they made the remake completely superfluous now... I'm not sure how to feel about any of this
