Rumiko Takahashi Finally Puts Down Inuyasha

Well, it’s about goddamn time. Manga-ka Rumiko Takahashi will finally shoot the elderly, unmoving and terminally ill manga that is Inuyasha behind the barn next week (metaphorically speaking). It’ll end up at 12 years, 54 manga volumes, and 167 TV episodes (although even the TV series got bored with the series, and quit well before it ended).

I liked Inuyasha when it started out?I’m a sucker for shonen series, after all, and Takahashi created my favorite anime ever?but both the manga and the anime quickly went to hell as nothing ever happened. Inuyasha and Kagome never defeated Naraku, despite facing him several hundred times. Inuyasha and Kagome never admitted they liked each other, despite getting perilously close several thousand times. I know that this stuff is the bread and butter of long-running series, but Inuyasha was ludicrous in its refusal to advance the characters or plot.

Incidentally, if you don’t want to read all 58 Inuyasha manga volumes or watch all 300+ TV episodes, this old Adult Swim promo sums up the entire series quite nicely.
