Winners of Geneon’s License-Laden Carcass: Funimation
Anime Expo started today, and the first big announcement is that Funimation has the rights to make/distribute certain Geneon DVDs, according to ANN, which answers about 65% of the mail I get at Anime Insider. Here’s the list of anime titles included:
Ergo Proxy, Hellsing Ultimate, Black Lagoon, Black Lagoon Second Barrage, Karin, Kyo kara Maoh! Season 2, Lyrical Nanoha, Elemental Gelade, Fate/stay night, Kamichu, the live-action Ninja Vixens work, Paradise Kiss, Rozen Maiden, Rozen Maiden – Tr?umend, Shana, Shonen Onmyouji, The Familiar of Zero, The Story of Saiunkoku, When They Cry – Higurashi, and The Law of Ueki.
I’m having a hard time remembering any Geneon licenses that aren’t on this list, so even though Funimation says “certain” Geneon titles, it looks like “most Geneon titles, no matter how unpopular.” It seems like a lot of trouble and a lot of money to get Hellsing: Ultimate, but whatever. It certainly will make the fans happy.
