Live-Action Robotech’s Max and Miriya Explain Love

So Space Ghost’s assertion that marriage is about compromising your future to the town council of Bethesda, Maryland, didn’t do it for you? Then let enterprising nerd Steve Racer (no relation to Speed) take a shot at explaining the most mysterious of human emotions with his shot-for-shot recreation of Max and Miriya’s first date from the Robotech episode “Wedding Bells.”

If you’re not a Robotech fan, let me set the scene: Max is the SDF’s best pilot. Miriya is an alien Zentraedi warrior, who after being bested by Max several times in space combat, shrunk herself to human size and secretly inserted herself onto the SDF to kill Max. Max sees her, falls in love, and asks her on a date, and Miriya tries to kill him with a knife. Half an hour later, they get married. I’ve said it before and I’m sure I’ll say it again, but Robotech‘s Macross saga is the greatest love story of the 20th century, because it perfectly illustrates that love makes no fucking sense. And often includes people trying to stab each other.

Incidentally, the best part of the video is that apparently Racer made it in hopes that live-action Robotech movie producer Tobey Maguire would see it, and cast Racer in the upcoming movie. I don’t believe I’ve heard of anything more hilariously tragic. Still, in happier news, I’m off to play Force Unleashed. Sniff you jerks later. (Via The Geek Media)
