Sam Raimi And Tobey Maguire Still Spider-Buddies

In breaking news last Friday, right after I’d signed off for the day, big sis Nikki Finke broke the news that Sony had finally gotten both director Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire to sign up for Spider-man 4 and 5. The studio hopes to shoot both simultaneously, since it was a real bitch nailing getting everyone signed. Kirsten Dunst hasn’t joined the crowd yet, but who cares? It’s Kirsten Dunst. It’s not like it would be hard to find someone else to fill out her dress. As for the villain, big sis had this to say…

Sony is taking its time officially hiring the movie’s villain since principal photography doesn’t start on Spider-Man 4 until next fall because of the recently postponed May 2011 release. I am told, however, that “once you find out who the villain is, you’ll know who’s playing it.” That should lead to speculation that Dylan Baker’s character of Dr. Curt Connors will ultimately turn into The Lizard as he did in the comic books. There’s one other character that’s been set up but is a real longshot — Daniel Gillies, who plays John Jameson, the astronaut fiance of Mary Jane in Spider-Man 2. In the comics he becomes the villain Man-Wolf.

The Lizard sounds good to me, but I’d like to submit my personal choice: Kraven the Hunter as played by Bruce Campbell. Yes, Kraven?he of the lion head vest?is ridiculous, which is why no one other than Bruce could do the part. And while we might prefer only one villain per movie, the studios aren’t going to stop?so Kraven could hunt both Spidey and Lizard in #4.
