DVD Day: November 4th, 2008, and Bender’s Game Review
? Futurama: Bender’s Game
I was lucky enough to get an early copy of Bender’s Game, and as huge Futurama fan, I am happy to tell you it is the best of the three Futurama DVD movies. Actually, if you watched season 4 of the TV series then moved to Bender’s Game, you wouldn’t feel like there’d been a break in-between them at all. The plot?which features the Planet Express crew trying to stop Mom’s dark matter fuel monoploy and Bender accidentally developing an imagination by playing Dungeons & Dragons, and ends up in a pretty stellar fantasy parody?hangs together magnificently, the nods to the fans aren’t as forced, there’s a pretty fun reveal, and the jokes are great. The stupidity of Mom’s killbots is a joy, although they’re still less retarded than the battle droids in Clone Wars.
If you’re any kind of Futurama fan, or felt underwhelmed by the last two movies, still definitely pick this up?you won’t be disappointed. Oh, and go read ToyFare editor Justin Aclin’s excellent interview with Futurama co-creator David X. Cohen for more.
? Primeval: The Complete Series I and II
BBC’s tale of prehistoric creatures crashing the present sounds cool and has been getting good reviews. I’ll leave it for the BBC America nerds to say more in the comments.
? Planets of the Apes: 40th Anniversary Collection
Those damned, dirty apes come to Blu-ray, allowing you to see Charlton Heston’s amazingly toned ass in the highest definition.
? Batman: The Complete Animated Series
Okay, so this is cool. The best Batman representation ever (in my august opinion) in one set of 109 episodes and 17 DVDs. Amazon has it for $75 at the moment.
? Fraggle Rock: The Complete Collection
And here’s 20 DVDs of Fraggle Rock. That’s a lot, really. More Fraggle than I’ll ever need, for sure.
? Home Movies: Complete Collection
With an exclusive bookbag and director’s clapboard, all four season of the show, and a soundtrack.
The Star Wars trilogies are also getting re-released today, but with nothing new or interesting about them. Besides, I imagine you guys just possibly already own them.
