DVD Day: April 28th, 2009

? Star Trek: The Original Series
All 29 episodes of the first season, on Blu-ray, in HD, with 7.1 surround sound, and, apparently, but the new version with the updated effects and the classic versions. That ain’t bad, especially when Amazon is offering it for $70.

? X-Men: Vol 1
I’m pretty impressed this is the third highest seller for the week (the also-available Vol. 2 is #5); I knew many people had fond memories of the show but I wasn’t sure how many people wanted to own it. Anyway, each volume has 2 discs and 16 episodes.

Jean-Claude Van Damme plays himself, caught up in a robbery gone awry on Brussels. I just watched this the other night; it’s good, and Van Dame gives a pretty amazing performance. Well, for him.

? Jetsons: The Movie
There was a Jetsons movie made in 1989? With the original voice cast except for Tiffany as Judy Jetson? How the fuck did I not know about this?

? The Looney, Looney, Looney Bugs Bunny Movie
When I was a kid, I always hated the Looney Tunes movies where it was basically a clip show with some terrible plot shoehorned in. This is one of those movies.

? Stephen King’s Kingdom Hospital
I forgot this show existed. Apparently the rest of you did, too.

? One-Eyed Monster
From the plot description: “The cast and crew of an adult film, stranded in a blizzard, must band
together against a mysterious and deadly alien, which has possessed the
actor with the biggest part Ron Jeremy (naturally). Now, with the
monster on a killing spree, the race is on to trap and destroy it
before there are more victims of its peculiar skills.” I just wanted to point out that I’m genuinely sad that Buffy’s Amber Benson is in this.
