The Nerd Event of the Social Season

?

Normally I try not to cover city-specific events on Topless Robot, because such a small portion of TR readers get to go to them. But this… this is worth mentioning, because I think many of you would be willing to make a road trip to attend.
Basically, the Radio City Music Hall will host a screening of Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, but with Howard Shore’s score performed live by the 21st Century Orchestra, the Collegiate Chorale, the Brooklyn Youth chorus and soprano Kaitlyn Lusk. It should be just a tiny bit off-the-fucking-charts awesome. Tickets are anywhere between $50 and $150, which is a lot, but there’s a lot of other stuff going on at the concert, including talks and signings by Shore, a discussion with Tolkien linguist David Salo (the guy who translated all the choral lyrics for The Lord of the Rings scores), and more. Check out the official site for more info and tickets.
