Ha ha! Not really. But you can console yourself with this excellent music video from Ms. Day and her castmates of her Xbox/web series The Guild, titled “Do You Want to Date My Avatar.” It’s actually been on Xbox Live and iTunes for a couple of weeks, but I was waiting for a legitimate embeddable version to show it off to you guys. And why not? It’s a pretty darn good song (note: I own a lot of Kylie Minogue CDs) and while I knew that Felicia Day could sing, I had no idea she could sing that well. I’m nothing but impressed, frankly. If you dig it, you can purchase the video and the MP3 on iTunes, and here’s a link to the MP3 for sale at Amazon. Frankly, it’s the perfect song to listen to as I try and figure out the winners of this weekend’s absolutely amazing TR contest on nerdy dating tips from nerdy girls. Kismet! Thanks to jestergoblin for the tip.
Robert Bricken is one of the original co-founders of the site formerly known as Topless Robot, and its first editor-in-chief, serving from 2008-12. He brought the site to prominence with “nerd news, humor and self-loathing” as its motto, raising it from total internet obscurity to a readership in the millions, with help from his savage “FAQ” movie reviews and Fan Fiction Fridays. Under his tenure Topless Robot was covered by Gawker, Wired, Defamer, New York magazine, ABC News, and others, and his articles have been praised by Roger Ebert, Avengers actor Clark Gregg, comedian and The Daily Show correspondent John Hodgman, the stars of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and Rifftrax, and others. He is currently the managing editor of io9.com. Despite decades as both an amateur and professional nerd, he continues to be completely unprepared for either the zombie apocalypse or the robot uprising.
