Nimoy Retires While Shatner Takes Over Canada
?Although these news items have nothing to do with each other, it was impossible for me not to write them together since they involve Star Trek’s Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner. First, Leonard Nimoy has announced his retirement from acting. All Spocks for the forseeable future will be played by Sylar, which is fine with me; however, Nimoy has said he will continue playing William Bell in Fringe as his final role (huge sigh of relief).
Meanwhile, William Shatner is poised to become the governor general of Canada. I had to look up the position on Wikipedia: “The Governor General of Canada is the viceregal
representative in the federal jurisdiction of the Canadian monarch and head
of state, Queen
Elizabeth II… . On the advice of her Canadian Prime Minister only, the Queen appoints the Governor General to carry out most of the
monarch’s constitutional and ceremonial duties for an unfixed period of
time… Once in office, these individuals maintain direct contact
with the Queen, wherever she may be at the time.” In current polls, Shatner is in the lead with 39% of the people’s vote, with second place having only 14% — assuming the queen accedes to the people’s wishes, it’s all Shatner, baby. Apparently the role is mainly ceremonial, but HOLY FUCK KIRK’S GOING TO BE IN CHARGE OF CANADA. (Via MTV and Scifi Wire)
