C = ME Square (Cinema = Mass Effect, Nerd)
Legendary Pictures has bought the rights to make a movie based on Bioware’s Mass Effect videogames. They’ve already assigned Mark Protosevich, the guy who wrote I Am Legend and the Thor movie, to do the script, but that’s hardly a guarantee that’s the movie will actually get made. For my money, the epic, hard sci-fi setting will end up being a hard sell financially to the studio and generally to mass (tee-hee!) non-nerd audiences, and thus the movie will never get made — or if it does, it’ll take place on one spaceship and on one planet which look extraordinarily like New Mexico with a green tint. Still, at least if the Mass Effect movie shows a little bit of alien sideboob, Fox News won’t freak the fuck out this time. Probably. (Via /Film)
