From DC creative head honcho Geoff Johns Twitter:

BLUE BEETLE NEWS from DCE!! We have a live-action test of Jaime Reyes’
scarab activating his suit.
It. Is. Awesome. Blue Beetle’s going to appear in most of the Brave and
the Bold’s this year and we’re hoping to develop a live-action show.
Fingers crossed! If I can break it out of the vault, I’ll bring it to
SDCC. LIVE ACTION BLUE BEETLE!!

DC’s thinking about a live-action Blue Beetle TV series? Wow. I certainly wasn’t expecting that. I gotta tell you, although I’m hardly up on my U.S. comics, I really like the Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle. Part of it’s because he’s appeared in the Brave and the Bold cartoon, sure, but the former Ted Kord Blue Beetle always seemed like one of those personality-less white guys that dominate DC’s second-tier superhero ranks. I could tell you jack shit about Ted Kord, but I do know Jamie Reyes is a Hispanic teen who finds a bug (of sorts) that gives him superpowers — more than a bit like Spider-Man, of course, but that’s because Spider-Man is an inherently more interesting superhero than a middle-aged white guy.

That all said… is America ready for a live-action Blue Beetle show? I kind of doubt it, unfortunately. I actually think they’d like the character if they gave it a try, but I have a hard time imagining mass audiences trying out a show where the superhero is called “Blue Beetle.” He has no name recognition, and please, face it, “Blue Beetle” does not sound hip or that interesting. I’ll keep my fingers crossed, though. Thanks to David E. for the tip. (Via Robot 6)
