Star Wars Weirdness Trifecta: Baseball, XM Radio, Orlando
?? The San Diego Padres have suddenly adopted Yoda as their unofficial mascot. This includes making the relief pitchers wear Yoda backpacks (as well as Chewbacca), he’s appearing in promotional pictures, and on the big screen. The reason might be that Padres’ second baseman David Eckstein is married to Ashley Eckstein, voice of Ashoka in Clone Wars and creator of the Her Universe clothing line. There are two things to note here: 1) Ashley Eckstein is totally fucking awesome, and 2) don’t under estimate the power of the force — the Padres are in first place in National League. Thanks to James S. for the tip.
? The Star Wars Celebration V is happening in a few days; even if you can’t go, you might be able to listen to an all Star Wars-themed satellite radio station on Sirius XM, which begins Thursday, August 12 at 6:00 pm ET on SIRIUS channel 108 and XM channel 139.
The station will run interviews with Star Wars stars and play audio of some of the Celebration panels, which is pretty cool. SDCC should do this. Thanks to Keith B. for the tip.
? Since Celebration V is happening in Orlando, there’s a petition to officially change the city’s name during the same time. Without a doubt, if this happened, this would be the coolest fucking thing ever. Even if they don’t do it, Orlando would be insane not to use this image for all future promotional material. Sign the petition here, and thanks to Joseph P. for the tip.
