TR Contest: Product Placement for Nerds

You know what’s driving me crazy nowadays? Product placement on TV. I can’t watch an episode of anything without the camera panning to tell me which car the cops are chasing the bad guys in, or hearing people awkwardly work Snickers into conversations, or having scenes needlessly set in a Subway (although Community‘s shilling of KFC was wonderfully bizarre).

And yet, this is clearly the future, so it might as well be the past, too. And not just for TV shows, but movies and books. So your mission for this week’s contest — thing up the best product placement in our favorite nerdy movies, books, shows, games, comics, etc. Hell, if you want to go ahead and imagine some characters just outright starring in a commercial, that’s fine too.

Feel free to describe whole scenes (200 words maximum), or share a few of the important lines, but you can also keep it simple. Here’s some examples:

? Admiral Piett comes across Darth Vader applying Neosporin to his charred head in Empire Strikes Back (simple)
? Admiral Piett comes across Darth Vader applying Neosporin to his charred head in Empire Strikes Back: “What is it, Admiral? You’re interrupting my fast, soothing pain relief.” (with quote)
? Darth Vader for Neosporin: “If you’ve had three of your limbs hacked off and then burst into flames because you were lying next to a sea of lava — and I know I have — you’re going to appreciate Neosporin.” (commercial)

…and so on. I’ll be looking for the cleverest product tie-ins and most ridiculous placements, and I’ll probably give bonus points for good taglines/dialogue, so you’ve been forewarned. the contest ends at 12:01 am EST on Monday, October 25th. Have a good weekend, and watch out for butterflies — you don’t know where they’ve been.
