Marvel Has Finally Learned Decimals

Remember that “dropping comics to $2.99” announcement Marvel made right after DC made it? Well, it was misconstrued. First of all, it was misconstrued by comics journalists and untrustworthy nerd bloggers by myself, who assumed Marvel was lowering prices on all their comics to $2.99. It was also misconstrued by Marvel, who more or less announced today that they won’t be dropping the prices for any of their comics, however, they will release their new Marvel.1 line at $2.99 a pop.

?Prices aside, Marvel .1 will effectively be like the old “!/2” issues of yorte, except they’ll be released during storyarcs and events, and designed to catch new readers up in whatever the hell is going on so they can and want to start reading the story proper. It sounds like a good idea to me, however, if I picked up an Avengers #12.1 for $3, like it, but then still have to pay $4 for Avengers #13, I still probably won’t bother, although it might make me interested enough to pick up the trade when it comes out.

So regular fans can just skip these, right? Well, sure you can… if you don’t mind missing shit like the introduction of things like an all-new Venom, which will apparently happen in Spider-Man #654.1. That’s not essential at all. Although you guys are already spending $4 an issue per month — what’s another $3? (Via Comics Alliance)
