“I Am Spartacus!” “No, I Am Spartacus!”

Starz has announced that they’ve found their new Spartacus for the second season of their hit/hyperviolent/practically-hardcore-pornography series Spartacus. As you’ll recall, the original Spartacus of Blood and Sand, Andy Whitfield, was diagnosed with cancer — Starz was super-cool and made a prequel series (called Gods of the Arena, airing before too long) while he recovered, but unfortunately the cancer returned, forcing Starz to recast.

The new Spartacus is Australian newcomer Liam Mcintyre. He has some pretty big sandals to fill (I know every single article written about this casting will use this joke, but I couldn’t help myself) but he looks the part, and I don’t think “the performances” would be anybody’s top 10 list for why they watch the show. Hopefully McIntyre does well, but as always, more hope to Whitfield for a speedy recovery.
