Check Out Yar Getting Some of Her Revenge
Atari has a first look at the gameplay of the all-new, reimagined Yar’s Revenge game. It’s kind of an odd first look, as it’s just some guy reading a script semi-uncomfortably over game footage, but the game footage is reasonably groovy. You guys might remember my fascination with the original Yars’ Revenge for the Atari 2600, and its combination of a bizarrely complex backstory and hilariously repetitive gameplay; I regret to inform you that I probably won’t be purchasing the game on Xbox Live or PSN because it is a rail-shooter, and of the games I’m most terrible at — and I’m godawful at a great many types of games — rail-shooters are probably the games I have the least talent for. However, I still vastly approve of Yar being a sexy chick in an insect-shaped mecha suit, and I also approve of her shields looking like the Qotile shields from the Atari 2600 game (at about 1:11). Nice work, Atari.
