The Black Panther Loves America

?Marvel has just announced the Black Panther will become American Panther in the near future as part of its “Fear Itself” event/wackiness. Now, we’ve all seen some comic concepts that sounded stupid at first end up making some excellent storylines — Bucky coming back to life being just one example — so I don’t think that we can rule out that this might be an amazing idea and we’ll all look back fondly on the American Panther stories as a high point of the entire character.
However, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t make fun of it until then, because it sounds and looks incredibly fucking stupid. What the hell is T’Challa doing? Has he been kicked out of Wakanda again? Did he lose a bet to Cap? Did someone finally tell him that “Black Panther” is the name of an African-American militant revolutionary organization from the ’60s and ’70s? “What? Are you kidding me? I’VE BEEN GOING BY BLACK PANTHER FOR 40 FUCKING YEARS, AND NO ONE EVER THOUGHT TO TELL ME THIS?” (Via Comic Book Resources)
