Game of Thrones Enters Round 2
?After a Sunday premiere which netted 4.2 million viewers — not too shabby for a pay-cable network, and when I say not too shabby I mean fucking insane — HBO went ahead and ordered a second season of Game of Thrones. I don’t think anyone is particularly surprised by this, given the show’s massive critical acclaim or how hard HBO has pimped it. In fact, the only reason I’m really mentioning it is to explain why I haven’t done a TR review of the first episode yet. It’s because I got in from England late Monday night and immediately went to sleep, and was still jetlagged yesterday — and I really wanted to watch GoT when I have my full faculties. At the moment, it appears that that will be tonight, so expect the review tomorrow. Sorry for the delay to anyone who was anxiously awaiting my thoughts/hyperbole/fawning.
About The Author
Robert Bricken is one of the original co-founders of the site formerly known as Topless Robot, and its first editor-in-chief, serving from 2008-12. He brought the site to prominence with “nerd news, humor and self-loathing” as its motto, raising it from total internet obscurity to a readership in the millions, with help from his savage “FAQ” movie reviews and Fan Fiction Fridays. Under his tenure Topless Robot was covered by Gawker, Wired, Defamer, New York magazine, ABC News, and others, and his articles have been praised by Roger Ebert, Avengers actor Clark Gregg, comedian and The Daily Show correspondent John Hodgman, the stars of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and Rifftrax, and others. He is currently the managing editor of io9.com. Despite decades as both an amateur and professional nerd, he continues to be completely unprepared for either the zombie apocalypse or the robot uprising.
