Harry Potter and the Final Incredibly Awesome Trailer

To me, Harry Potter is not the hero of the Harry Potter franchise. It’s the dude — or dudes — slaving away in whatever dark room in the Warner Bros. building, who have edited together what are some of the best trailers for any movies I have ever seen for the past decade or so. I say this every time, but holy shit I cannot believe how awesome the Harry Potter trailers have been through the years. This is no mean feat — first of all, almost no one in Hollywood knows how to make a decent trailer any more, period. Second, virtually everyone knows the story already, so it’s hard to build excitement. And although some insane people may disagree, these are kids’ books, and thus generally contain more action-adventure than high-stakes moments fraught with emotion and awe.

And yet whoever has been making these trailers over the years always makes the Harry Potter movies seem like the most profound, monumental, shit-kickingly awesomest movies ever, and this new Deathly Hallows trailer is no exception. I read the actual book, and wasn’t that impressed; I know if I watch the actual movie, I won’t be that impressed; and yet this trailer had me at the edge of my fucking seat.

Sir, or ma’am, or guys — whoever you are, just know that your work has been noted and appreciated. Every single time. Truly. If you made every movie trailer every, the world of cinema would be a much finer place.
