New Doctor Who Trailer, Now with Extra U.S.A.! U.S.A.!
This trailer is actually a few days old, I just haven’t had my shit together enough to run it (I got it confused with the BBC One trailer, which contains pretty much the same footage but less “HOLY SHIT THE DOCTOR IS IN AMERICA” sensibilities). And I don’t think I’d run it now if I didn’t want to discuss the spoiler about the season 6 premiere that’s been leaked after the jump, and needed something to act as a placeholder on the front page. Like this. So, spoilers after the jump, everyone.
Showrunner Steven Moffat says he’s definitely killing one of the four main characters in the first episode of season 6, those four characters being the Doctor, Amy, Rory, and River Song. Now, this is irritating because American comics have totally destroyed all gravitas from the announcement of a character dying, and it’s not like there’s not enough wiggle room in the Who-niverse to kill a character totally for reals, and then find a way to bring him back again (Case in point: Rory, last season). So while someone may die, I think we can all expect some sort of storytelling gimmick to bring them back sooner or later.
But here’s the thing — with Moffat, you really don’t know. I kind of doubt he would kill the Doctor and sneak in a new regeneration on us, but he might. I certainly didn’t expect Rory to die last season — thanks for not announcing it, by the way — and even though he came back, that part of the season’s storyline was devastating. So I’m both annoyed… and scared, I guess? Such is the power of Steven Moffat, I suppose.
And here’s one thing you can help me with, people, because I’m totally confused: River Song. First of all, she died/dies in Library episodes, which for her obviously happen after the stuff that’s about to happen in season 6… uh… happens. So whatever bad juju about her is about to be revealed, clearly, the Doctor got over it and married her later. So it’s hard for me to get too worked up about this storyline when it has to match up with the events from the previous seasons. This is why I don’t think River can be Amy Pond’s daughter or some shit like that. I mean, she can’t really turn out to be the Rani now, because why on earth would the Doctor marry her later? Am I missing something here?
