At about 3:30pm EST, commenting will be shut off on Topless Robot for a bit. I’m going to guess about 45 minutes, or until 4pm EST, but you never know with these things. The site should be perfect accessible otherwise, you just can’t post any comments.
I invite you to spend the time watching this 25-minute introduction to the world of Westeros and HBO’s Game of Thrones series. If you were at all put off by the amount of plot or characters or such in the series, this should be pretty much everything you need to know to hit the ground running when the show premieres on April 17th, and it’s probably not a bad way to brush-up for those who haven’t read the books in a while. Anyways, enjoy, and hopefully everything will be back to normal in a bit. Maybe even slightly better. (Video via io9)
Robert Bricken is one of the original co-founders of the site formerly known as Topless Robot, and its first editor-in-chief, serving from 2008-12. He brought the site to prominence with “nerd news, humor and self-loathing” as its motto, raising it from total internet obscurity to a readership in the millions, with help from his savage “FAQ” movie reviews and Fan Fiction Fridays. Under his tenure Topless Robot was covered by Gawker, Wired, Defamer, New York magazine, ABC News, and others, and his articles have been praised by Roger Ebert, Avengers actor Clark Gregg, comedian and The Daily Show correspondent John Hodgman, the stars of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and Rifftrax, and others. He is currently the managing editor of io9.com. Despite decades as both an amateur and professional nerd, he continues to be completely unprepared for either the zombie apocalypse or the robot uprising.
