Casual Encounters with Discreet Dragons in Dungeons Near You

Wizards of the Coast has begun something called Dungeons & Dragons: Encounters this week. Apparently it’s not filthy nerd sex, which is probably for the best. It’s a new style of D&D which is more pick-up-and-play than the regular version, allowing for groups to have a single, stand-alone adventure in a session of 1-2 hours. These are held at local nerd shoppes, so if you want to join in, you can enter your zip code here and find out where the nearest games to you are being run.

While I should probably make fun of this, it actually seems like a pretty good idea. I’m sure these things are more simplified that most dedicated role-players would like, but having the ability to run a quick adventure without killing 4-6 hours sounds like a nice option any gaming group would like to have. Not as nice as me finding my goddamn 2nd Edition Player’s Handbook, but pretty nice nonetheless. (Via Geeks Are Sexy)
