The New Spartacus Trailer Is Not Helping My Action Movie Boner

And speaking of ridiculously graphic on-screen violence, Starz just released a trailer for the long-awaited second season of its Spartacus series, titled Vengeance, as Liam McIntyre replaces the late Andy Whitfield as Spartacus. Clearly, the violence level is going to remain in tact, if not exceeded. Admittedly, I’m a little confused about how much nudity and softcore sex will be in the show, now that Spartacus’ band is on the road and not in a Roman house where massive orgies can be easily held, but I’m sure producers Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert have figured something out. Actually, the Classics major in me is getting excited about the show getting more into historical known (well, semi-kinda-known) territory of Spartacus’ slave revolt, as opposed to the wholly fictionalized account of his time as a gladiator. Of course, looking to Spartacus: Vengeance for historical accuracy is probably a fool’s errand, but at least I’ll have the hideous violence and the most graphic sex pay-cable will allow to comfort me.
