“Look at WiiU Controller”

Look. If you’re excited about the WiiU and it’s massive, touchscreen controller, that’s fine with me. I don’t care. I’m not going to lose any sleep if it succeeds, and I hope you enjoy the hell out of it, as well as games like ZombiU, without any qualifications or qualms. But I can tell you that I, personally, see no appeal in trying to play a game where it tells me to “LOOK AT WIIU CONTROLLER” every 30 seconds. Sure, it only takes a few seconds to look down to see whatever the hell the controller wants to show you, but multiple that several hundreds times during any reasonable length of gameplay, and that seems like a lot of wasted time to me. I don’t know what it thinks its doing that simply going up to a briefcase and hitting X to find out what’s inside it does quicker and more efficiently. Plus, as you can see in this video, the touchscreen — like any touchscreen — can be finicky, meaning it may take several tries to enter keypad numbers, move equipment, or anything else you need to use the WiiU controller. I don’t know what the benefit of this thing is. I guess there’s an argument to be made that somehow, by forcing you to look into the WiiU controller screen and “manually” move equipment into your inventory, the WiiU is somehow more immersive than regular games. If it is, it seems like it’s immersing me in busywork, something I generally play videogames to avoid.

Also, two headshots to kill a zombie? That’s just fucked up, son.
