Marvel and Joss Whedon Decide They Like Money and Success

Joss Whedon has officially signed on to direct Avengers 2. Seeing as the first Avengers was critically and commercially beloved, and is currently the #3 highest-grossing movie in the world, this is probably a good move for both Whedon and Marvel. I’m excited as hell; Avengers was fun, funny, and Whedon actually stayed out of it enough that it truly was an Avengers movie and not a Joss Whedon movie (indeed, I’d say Whedon didn’t indulge in any of his bad habits, except, of course, killing the most fan-beloved character. Sigh).

What’s potentially more exciting is that Whedon is helping to develop that rumored Marvel TV series set in the movie-verse. Whedon knows a tiny bit about good TV, so this… this is good news. And you know what the best part is? Since Marvel is owned by Disney, the show will almost certainly go to the Disney-owned ABC, which means it ca’t be canceled by Fox. Now, make sure the show is about Agent Coulson, and we’re suddenly back in the best of all possible nerd worlds. (Via /Film)
